Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has signed on for an intriguing Indo-American film for her next project. The film will be based on the book Three Women by Rabindranath Tagore.

Isheeta Ganguly, a theatre writer-director, confirmed to News18.com that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has agreed to play the lead in her directorial debut. She went on to say that the play was called Three Women, but the film is called 'The Letter,' because the plot revolves around a letter written by Tagore's sister-in-law, Kadambari Devi.

Surprisingly, Aishwaya was the one who suggested that the film be made in English rather than Hindi.

Aishwarya and Abhishek recently returned from the Maldives, where they celebrated Aaradhya's 10th birthday. The couple had shared beautiful photos from their beach vacation.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Aishwarya will soon reunite with filmmaker Mani Ratnam for a new film. The actress has agreed to play one of the leads in the film 'Ponniyin Selvan.'

Aishwarya will play two roles in this film, which is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's historical fiction novel of the same name. The epic novel, set against the backdrop of the Chola Dynasty, has been adapted for the big screen by Ratnam and writer B. Jeyamohan, who has penned dialogues for the film.
