Ahaan Panday’s debut film Saiyaara undergoes CBFC edits, removing sensual content and strong language

Mohit Suri’s upcoming romantic drama Saiyaara, starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has cleared the censor board with a U/A 16+ certificate after making several mandated edits. As anticipation builds for its July 18 release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has instructed the makers to modify specific visuals and language.

As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC demanded the removal or replacement of four instances of what it described as “objectionable” words, though the exact words were not disclosed in the official cut list. Additionally, 10 seconds of visuals featuring what the board termed “sensual, intimate and body exposure” content were ordered to be deleted and replaced. These edits appear to be part of a broader effort by the CBFC to align the film with the standards required for its certification category.

The board also instructed the inclusion of a static helmet safety disclaimer in scenes involving two-wheeler riding. After all the cuts and additions, the film’s final approved runtime stands at 156.50 minutes — roughly 2 hours and 37 minutes.

Saiyaara marks a significant launch for Ahaan Panday, nephew of Chunky Panday and cousin of actor Ananya Panday. Paired opposite Canadian-born newcomer Aneet Padda, the film promises a youthful love story underscored by Mohit Suri’s signature musical stylings.

The buzz around the film has been growing steadily, helped by its soundtrack and the palpable on-screen chemistry between the leads. While early reactions to the promotional content were mixed, the strong interest in advance bookings tells a different story. The film has already sold over 90,000 tickets across major cinema chains — a record figure for a debutant-led film. Industry analysts suggest that the final pre-release numbers could cross 1.75 to 2 lakh, an impressive feat for a non-franchise title with fresh faces.

All eyes are now on whether Saiyaara can translate this early momentum into a solid box office run. With the censor board edits now behind it, the film is set for a wide release on July 18.
