Saanwariya is a single video. I have been working on it for quite some time now and it's an independent single. I really wanted this to be featured on MTV's show called Roots. It's one of the first shows of India which promotes Independent music. Luckily enough, they loved the video and they are featuring us this Friday at 9 PM. I have collaborated with a friend of mine – Jhanvi Shrimankar, who is also a singer. We have come together to produce this.
What inspired you to do this music video?
I have always been very interested in music and after winning Star Ya Rockstar, I thought that I should do something related to music. I was travelling for my musical plays across the country. I was singing, dancing and acting in it. After the play got over, we decided to collaborate on this single. It is a 'Thumri' which was originally sung by Govinda's Mother Nirmala Deviji. It's one of my favorite songs and Jhanvi loved it too. That's how the song came into being.
Are you a trained classical singer? How long have you trained and with whom?
Yes, I have taken training in Hindustani classical singing for 9 years. I have got trained under Smt. Madhubala Chawla and Seeta Tipnis.
Were you training even while you were busy with your daily soaps?
No, I was not able to do all this when I was busy with my daily soaps due to lack of time. I used to do my Riyaaz everyday whenever I used to get time.
How was it working with Jhanvi Srimankar?
It was great for both of us to work together. Both of us love food and music and we had a blast while working. Our conversations always used to revolve around food and music. It was a lot of fun for both of us while shooting the video which was shot at a beautiful location just ahead of Lonavala.
While shooting there was a sequence when we both had to walk gracefully looking in the camera and suddenly we didn't realized that there was a huge puddle of mud ahead of us. We didn't even realise till we both fell into it (laughs). It was a great fun for us.
What according to you is going to be the USP of the music album?
In India, we don't have the concept of two women singing together. So for the audience two women who are a great combination of looks and talent will be a Double Dhamaka!
We have already started conceptualizing on the second song. We are planning it to be a fun song.
So, when is it expected to be launched?
Firstly, we would like
to see the reaction of people on Saanwariya and then we will be working on the
next.
What kind of response did you get for your play - Maru Piyu Gayu Rangoon which premiered at the Globe theatre in London?
We got a tremendous response for the play. We have finished almost 50 shows across the country. I am already working on my second play. Its going to be exciting.
Are you planning to make a comeback to television?
Yes, but only when if something exciting comes up. I want to be a part of different projects. A sitcom would be great or then something in Non-Fiction.
What kind of offers are you getting – fiction / non-fiction?
I am getting a lot of offers for fiction but I want to keep my options open. After Gulaal and Star Ya Rockstar, I want to do something really different.
What kind of roles are you looking forward to play?
I am looking forward to play a role different to what I have played earlier. I would like to play a mad or quirky kind of character.
Any message for your fans?
I would like to thank my fans for constantly showering their
love and support on me. I get a lot of messages saying we miss you and ask me to comeback on
television. I would like to say to all of them to wait a little
longer and I assure you that the wait will be worthwhile.
