Aftab Shivdasani falls victim to cyber fraud, loses Rs 1.50 Lakh in KYC scam

In a startling turn of events, popular Bollywood actor Aftab Shivdasani found himself ensnared in a cyber fraud trap, losing a significant sum of Rs 1.50 lakh. The incident unfolded when Shivdasani received a seemingly innocuous text message that purported to be from a leading private sector bank, urging him to update his Know Your Customer (KYC) details. Little did he know that this seemingly routine request would lead to a significant financial loss.

The incident occurred on a Sunday, but it was not until the following day that the actor decided to report it to the authorities. According to an official from the Bandra police station, Shivdasani received the dubious message from an unfamiliar mobile number. The message sternly warned him that failing to update his KYC details would result in the suspension of his bank account. 

Naturally concerned, Shivdasani clicked on the link provided in the message, unwittingly setting in motion a chain of events that would ultimately see him lose Rs 1,49,999 from his account.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Shivdasani promptly reached out to the bank's branch manager on the subsequent Monday. Following the manager's guidance, the actor promptly lodged a formal complaint with the police.

The authorities wasted no time and registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 420 (pertaining to cheating), and sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act. As of now, an ongoing investigation is underway to bring those responsible for this fraudulent act to justice.
