The notion of love and the desire to cherish one's company is one aspect we seek in a relationship. Such is the story of a photographer who struggles through making his living for the day and falls in love with an ambitious girl from a high-class society. Can their relationship emerge from this discriminated society?
The film narrates a story of commoners and the working-class who struggle through daily hardships of life. A simple yet elegant film which will pluck the strings of your heart. Set in the nooks and corners of Mumbai, Photograph is a relative reality which is shared by each and every person living in the racing city.
The exceptional yet marvelous storyline throws ambiguity at its best, and the best part about the ambiguous story is - anyone can connect to it and curve the story according to their own lifestyle. With dreams in their eyes and the desire to struggle, every working class has his own dreams to Live his life! The script is well written, as you'll hardly witness any loopholes. The film is a steady ride of tranquility through the old lively Bombay without any jerks or potholes!
Although, the film's notable feature is the character's storyline - which runs parallelly. The characters know they are on the same page of their love story which hardly happens in Bollywood. It certainly isn't the typical love story with intimate moments, but it is purely based on love and respect for each other.
Photograph features phenomenal use of cameras and lighting. The notion of love is beautifully captured between the four borders of the screen. The filmmaker Ritesh Batra, has managed to compile the film successfully with the help of the quirky team which totally excel in their own way!
The simple and acoustic background score will keep you melded in the film as the touch of the silent piano will surely mesmerize you! The old Bollywood numbers are a cherry on top as they make you hum along with the music tracks!
Once again Nawazuddin Siddiqui steals the show! However, even Sanya Malhotra has been exceptional throughout the film as the duo stuck on to their characters until the very end! The eccentric duo manages to hold on to your heart-veins as we all know the two are best at what they do!
In conclusion, if you are expecting to watch the story of an intimate and physical relationship I would recommend you to not watch this film as it will highly disappoint you!
Photograph is a niche cinema which is beyond the common stereotypical love stories that are being served since ages. It is one of the classics, a Bollywood filmmaker has to offer as this film is quite peculiar as it stretches beyond materialistic and prejudiced love.
