Year Ender 2022: From Darlings to Govinda Naam Mera; OTT releases that generated waves & got popular

While theatres reopened in 2022 and filmmakers were once again able to showcase their works to the big screen, many movies still chose digital release over mainstream distribution. It looked like a safer alternative to present your work to a much bigger audience that was also accessible when they wanted to watch it, especially with high-budget movies floundering at the box office and drawing flak for a wide range of reasons. Here are a few movies that caused a stir and became well-liked among viewers being distributed digitally on various OTT platforms this year. 

Alia Bhatt made a debut as a producer with this dark comedy and how. The film which also starred Vijay Verma and Shefali Shah in pivotal roles was a hit amongst the viewers. From critics to the general audience, everyone lauded the film which was streamed on Netflix. 

Despite receiving some sort of criticism, the film was a topic of discussion. It received mixed reviews from the audiences but all the cast members including Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Dhairya Karwa won the hearts of the viewers with their stellar performances. 

Dasvi which featured Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam, and Nimrat Kaur in pivotal roles was a good watch for the viewers and they also lauded the story as well as the performances of the actors. Abhishek also received an award for his role in the film. 

The recently Netflix-released film Qala has been highly praised by the masses. Viewers loved the story, cinematography, visuals, and music of the film. The Anvita Dutt-helmed film starred Tripti Dimri, late actor Irrfan Khan's son Babil Khan and Swastika Mukherjee in the lead roles.

The neo-noir crime comedy thriller film directed by Vasan Bala was a super hit amongst the viewers, especially Rajkummar Rao's performance. The actor received a number of awards for his performance in the film. The film also starred Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte in key roles.  

A Thursady, touted to be vigilante thriller, striked a chord with the viewers and they loved Yami Gautam in this versatile role. The film was streaming on Disney plus Hotstar and alo starred Neha Dhupia along with Yami. 

Govinda Naam Mera has been one of the most viewed film straight up for 2 weeks as per the ormax reports. From critics, to fraternity individuals to the audiences, everyone loved the masala entertainer film which starred Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar in pivotal roles. It has been the talk of the town for quite a few days. 

Kartik Aaryan outshined himself in this romatic-thriler. While the film garnered mixed reviews, it made waves owing to the performances. Alaya F. was also a part of the film and audiences did like her in the dark character.
