Inspired by the Walk of Fame featuring famous Hollywood
celebrities in Los Angeles, UTV earlier this year worked on a proposal of
instituting a similar concept, Walk of the
Stars, along the kilometre stretch
of the populace favourite Bandra bandstand in Mumbai. Realizing this concept of
honouring cinematic legends, a choice collection of artefacts, names, statues
et al is being established overlooking Mumbai's hotspot Promenade in the suburb
of Bandra. It was in honour of the line of her forefathers, whose
contribution to Indian cinema has been unparalleled, that actress Kareena
Kapoor was seen at the occasion along with father Randhir Kapoor. In a public
address after unveiling the brass statue of industry's forerunning visionary
Raj Kapoor, Bebo spoke with pride of her family's standing in Bollywood, of how
acting was in their veins and blood, and how this was an ideal manner to mark
the occasion of 100 years of cinema. She shared light family secrets, including
that of her grandfather's partiality for Karishma Kapoor's blue eyes like his
own, as opposed to Bebo's green like her own father. Daddy Randhir, in his
address, was heard to add remarks about Kapoor family's legacy.
The UTV Walk of the Stars showcases 5 other statues apart
from that of Raj Kapoor; those being of Shammi Kapoor, Dev Anand, Rajesh
Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar.
Also present at the unveiling was realist director Madhur
Bhandarkar, whose current venture Heroine
stars Bebo in the central protagonist role, opposite Arjun Rampal.
