The Magical Rains: Top Rain Scenes of Bollywood

The frequently trodden path to love, in most of the Bollywood stories, is a thorny one and yet there is a strange kind of beauty in the erratic beating of hearts and magnetic eyes. This beauty is all the more enhanced when there is a rhythmic pelting of raindrops on dusty pavements and a heart that is in the initial phases of love to appreciate it. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), has a scene wherein Anushka Sharma leans into an open window, tilting her face skywards, letting the errant drops of rain caress her face while the words of the person who has created havoc in her senses, seep through her fractured memories.The movie Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) has a pivotal rain scene which not only explains the idiosyncrasies behind Parineeti Chopra's behaviour but also marks the initial stages of bonding between the leads. This scene too, has rain lazily splattering on their faces, as if refusing to comply with the rules of gravity just to be a part of yet another love story.Sometimes there really comes a mist and a weeping rain, and life is never the same again. There is a strange connection between heartbreak and rain; perhaps that is the reason rain is used repetitively to emphasize a broken heart. The scene in Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) where Preity Zinta is seen crying bitterly over shattered dreams and dead hopes in the driving rain is indeed painful. Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) has Bipasha Basu sitting on the stone steps of the marriage registrar office, in the golden glow of a street lamp, with the pouring rain wiping the traces of her tears. The scene, though short, has such poignancy that it leaves a dull ache in the deepest recesses of the soul.
