In October 2018, 6ix9ine was sentenced to three years' probation and 1,000 hours of community service after pleading guilty in 2015 to taking part in making and disseminating a video that showed a 13-year-old girl giving oral sex and making sexual contact with other individuals.

In December 2019, 6ix9ine was sentenced to 24 months in prison in Manhattan federal court for his participation in the violent Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods New York street gang. His sentence was lighter because he provided the government with key evidence that enabled them to bring charges against two other individuals. He was also recently sued for $150 million by a woman who said she was caught in crossfire of the rapper’s retribution against gang members in 2018.

Recently, the rapper has been desperate to get out of jail. He'd rather take his chances outside of prison than risk the disease killing him while he's locked up. 6ix9ine's attorney, Lance Lazzaro, wrote a letter to the judge Sunday night citing serious concerns for Tekashi's wellbeing behind bars. Lazzaro says Tekashi suffers from asthma, thus the disease could be deadly for him.

In a letter, Lazzaro also reveals Tekashi was diagnosed with bronchitis and sinusitis late last year and was hospitalized for treatment. According to Lazzaro, the rapper has recently had shortness of breath, but prison officials won't let him see a doctor.

Although the rapper only has a few months left for his sentence to end, he says he can't risk staying locked up while his life is on the line.
