Ageism is the new topic that has sparked controversy around the town and celebrities can’t seem to put an end to this debate. The movement has called out for many elder actors who tend to fall out of work and once again Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar made it to the headlines for their upcoming film Saand Ki Aankh.

The film will see them performing as a 60-year-old character. The filmmakers’ choice was instantly questioned by the likes of Soni Ranzdaan, Neena Gupta.

The whole controversy began with a tweet as a user wrote on Twitter that though the trailer looked fabulous, maybe the filmmakers should have cast older actresses in the film. To which Neena Gupta replied, "Yes i was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam humse kara lo bhai."

During a conversation with Quint, Alia Bhatt's mother, Soni Razdan said, "I love both these actors honestly but I mean why? I get there is something called box office draw but then why make a film on 60-year-olds if you can't cast the real ones?"

She further asked the makers, "This makes no sense. I think it's about authenticity. Would The Kominsky Method have worked with 30-year-olds? It's just silly beyond a point. I don't know the script and that's not for me to suppose. I'm just saying that all this talk of Bollywood breaking out of the stereotype is rubbish. If this is what we are back to in the end. One film - Badhaai Ho - doesn't mean a stereotype has been broken."

To which Taapsee has finally made her stand, she said "I'm used to controversies now. Maybe the trailer was so good, they wanted to do the film themselves. But I know I can play a person of any age and gender, race or sexual orientation—that's what 'acting' is about. If my performance is not up to mark, you can criticize me, else it's a lame conversation."

During a previous interaction, the actress seemed irritated for always being caught under the crossfire (For always being criticized for her film choices) and she expressed her discontent as she said, “Ek kam karti hoon main acting karna chhod deti hoon (I will do one thing, I will stop acting), and only play characters of my age and girls from Delhi. We are actors, so should we stop acting?

“As an actor, I will sometimes play characters of different ages. We should stop being camera actors, I think. I know it’s not an easy visual, as these women pick up guns at the age of 60, and the film showcases their story from half of their current ages.”

What an ignorant reply. Does she not understand how oppresive her words are? She needs to check her privilege. She can't act as ant race, gender, age. Especially race. Actors in the entertainment industries need to undertand their jobs will alwayd be political, and contribute tto and impact society whether they like it or not. Ignorance at is peak.
