Ali Abbas Zafar's sports-drama, Sultan, starring superstars Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in lead roles is slated to release on the 6th of July, 2016. The story is centered around wrestler Sultan Ali Khan's life. The music has been composed by the duo Vishal Dadlani-Shekhar Ravjiani, and the lyrics have been penned by Irshad Kamil.

The album is a generally diverse mix of upbeat numbers and soft, soothing melodies. Some of the most outstanding voices in the industry, including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sukhwinder Singh, Harshdeep Kaur, and Neha Bhasin have given voice to some of the songs in this album. The songs aren't exactly out of the box, but we expect them to do well once the movie releases.

The album starts with the upbeat "Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai", voiced by Vishal Dadlani, Shalmali Kholgade, Ishita and Badshah. The composition is a fusion of folk elements and electronic sounds and beats. There is definitely some effort to add a Haryanvi touch to the song, but it seems to fall flat a little. This is your typical dance number, with a catchy hook and average lyrics. However, it makes for a good enough start to the album.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is great in his rendition of "Jag Ghoomeya". This is the controversial song where the version by Arijit Singh did not make the final cut. Controversies aside, we felt the composition was just above average. However, Fateh Ali Khan's voice is absolutely beautiful and manages to uplift the track. While we're still holding out hope for Arijit's version to be released at some point, we still think this is a fabulous listen for Khan's memorable vocals!

"440 Volt" is the next song in the list, and we're honestly not very impressed. Mika Singh is as good as ever and his vocals are what makes this song bearable. The composition and beats are not very fresh and the lyrics mediocre, which leads to it being a really conventional-and underwhelming-affair.

The title track "Sultan", voiced by Sukhwinder Singh and Shadaab Faridi, is absolutely top-notch! The song has been tailored to suit the needs of the film and one expects it to be a fantastic complement to the storyline. It is quite a high-energy number and easily one of the best compositions of this album. This one will certainly leave you nodding your head vigorously along with the beats.

"Sachi Muchi" sounds uncomfortably similar to "Slow Motion Angreza" from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), especially at the beginning. That's a bit of a downer, particularly because Mohit Chauhan and Harshdeep Kaur are really fantastic in this song. Furthermore, the minimal instruments and use of the mouth organ definitely give this song a somewhat vintage feel, in a good way.

Papon is decent in "Bulleya". Maybe it's the expectations that let him down, because although his rendition is far from bad, we know he is capable of doing so much more with his songs. The music, too, is quite conventional and limiting. The lyrics are wonderful, but overall the song is just about average.

"Tuk Tuk", though, is not bad at all! The voices of Jyoti Nooran and Sultana Nooran hit you like a sharp breath of fresh air after the relatively dull affair of "Bulleya". Vishal's rap is a nice change from the rustic feel and really draws up this song even further! The composition, too, is one of the more experimental ones in this album. Overall, definitely one of our favorite songs.

The female version of "Jag Ghoomeya", voiced by Neha Bhasin, has to be the best song of the lot! The simplistic accompaniment helps create a very soothing atmosphere, which really lets Bhasin's voice shine! Soulful and beautiful, this rendition is bound to touch a chord.

The album ends with "Rise of Sultan". Shekhar Ravjiani's vocals and the energetic chorus makes this the perfect composition to end the album with. It definitely helps end the album on a high note!

BollyCurry gives this album a rating of 3/5. This is most certainly not a landmark album, but there are some decent compositions backed by some wonderful vocals. Listen to this one for the energetic title track, "Tuk Tuk" and "Jag Ghoomeya".
