Bollywood's power couple, Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, recently faced a tumultuous period as Raj spent two months in Arthur Road Jail in connection with a pornography case. Now, as he prepares to make his acting debut in a satirical film inspired by his time in prison, Raj has shared the emotional support he received from his wife, Shilpa Shetty, and her suggestion to leave India during their trying times.
In a candid interview with Indianexpress.com, Raj Kundra revealed the deep emotional turmoil he experienced during his incarceration, expressing that at one point, he was so low that he contemplated "ending things inside." He opened up about the humiliation and reputational damage he faced, as the media scrutiny extended to his family.
During this challenging phase, Shilpa Shetty, Raj's steadfast partner, was a pillar of strength. Raj shared that it was Shilpa who initially proposed the idea of leaving India for a fresh start. He recounted, "My wife was actually the first person to say, 'Do you want to live abroad Raj? You left everything in London, you were born and brought up there, you moved here because I wanted to be here. But if you want, I can make things work and let’s leave the country, let’s go abroad.'"
However, Raj's love for India and his conviction to clear his name led him to decline the offer. He affirmed that he wanted to stay in the country he calls home and face the challenges that lay ahead. Raj Kundra also emphasized the discrepancy in the treatment of individuals involved in various cases, highlighting that those responsible for more significant crimes often manage to leave the country with their ill-gotten wealth.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Raj Kundra is now venturing into the world of acting with his upcoming film, 'UT69,' which is set to release on November 3.
