A few weeks back, South superstar Prabhas and Bollywood bustle babe Shraddha Kapoor delivered the year’s most awaited and highly anticipated thriller action Saaho. The film was made with a massive budget of 300 crores and has also turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office. However, despite the grossing numbers, the film faced underwent a maze of criticism from all quarters. Right from the aloof performance of the lead cast that failed to impress the audience to the allegations of plagiarism, the film was brutally nitpicked by critics and fans.
Reportedly, a French filmmaker Jerome Salle had accused the makers of Saaho of plagiarism of copying his film Largo Winch. And, famous fashion critic Diet Sabya also slammed the Saaho makers for copying the poster of the film from Shilo Shiv Suleman’s artwork for their song Baby Won’t You Tell Me. While the film managed to make money, it failed critical value.
After staying mum for the longest time, director Sujeet has finally broken his silence and has now spoken about the brutal criticism the film faced. During a recent interview, he was asked about the failure of Saaho, and he said that he could not understand why he is being targeted for the critical failure of his film.
“I made the film that Prabhas sir, my producers, and I believed in. The audiences came in large numbers to watch it, but still, I am being treated as harshly as if I have committed a crime," Sujeet told Deccan Chronicle.
The filmmaker further added, “I don’t know why all these reports targeting me are being published. I last gave interviews one day after the release of Saaho. Even when I say ‘no comments’, it is turned into an interview. And those quotes are now being used against me.”
Recently a viral statement had taken the internet by storm where the director had allegedly claimed that his fans in Bihar want to erect a temple in his honor. To which, Sujeet reacted saying, “Please show me where I’ve said this. I never said this. One guy who has nothing to do with the film made this statement on YouTube. I would never make these kinds of statements. I know how ridiculous it sounds.”
In the interview, the director revealed that he is staying away from the media and public appearances because of all the negativity being thrown at his movie. He also said, “Love or hate the film. But why target me?”
Sujeet concluded by saying, “Prabhas sir and the producers are supporting me. That’s the only good thing happening in my life right now. Seeing all the criticism, I decided to keep quiet and still, all these negative things are being said about me.”
Well, this befitting reply straight from Saaho’s director Sujeet is bound to shut the criticism coming through the film’s way.
