People thought I wouldn’t be able to be an actress because of my over-weight: Kaushiki Rathore

Body-shaming is not acceptable, but things are different when you are a celebrity. The entertainment industry is famous for its unrealistic body standards. Actors and actresses are scrutinized for how they look.

Professionally, Kaushiki has been seen in shows like Krishna Chali London, Gudiya Hamara Sabhi Pe Bhari and her last show was ‘Story 9 months Ki’. Now, the actress is all set to be seen as the negative lead in the TV show Durga Aur Charu.

Sharing her experience on fat shaming, Kaushiki says, "I went through body-shaming and people used to hit me with weird comments. The people around me spoke about my weight, which made me feel why is my work getting ignored. People used to call me 'fatty', 'overweight' and say 'you are so fat how will you become an actress’.

I decided to shed kilos. I went through a weight-loss journey which helped me bag better roles. However, I still have scars of those hurtful comments on my weight. It feels like it was yesterday.

Kaushiki further adds, "My initial days in the industry were quite difficult due to my weight. In order to make a place for myself in the industry, I decided to shed kilos. I went through a weight-loss journey which helped me bag better roles. However, I still have scars of those hurtful comments on my weight. It feels like it was yesterday."

Lastly, talking about the concept of body shaming, Kaushiki says, "Well, this is not a new thing, not only in the industry, but body shaming happens everywhere. People look at women's bodies and use dismissive words. This problem is something that women experience on a daily basis. Body shaming erodes somebody’s confidence. I hope that a constructive shift happens in society and people stop shaming someone for their physical appearance."
