Music Review: Agneepath

Starring Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, anticipation for the film has been quite high ever since trailers were released.

The original Agneepath(2012) by Yash Johar is considered a classic, which is now being remade by son, Karan Johar. Starring Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, anticipation for the film has been quite high ever since trailers were released. Music hemmed by Ajay-Atul, leaves open ends on how the album for the film will fare.

The album kick starts with "Chikni Chameli" which has already been grabbing attention of viewers through music video promos. Previously acknowledged, "Chikni Chameli" is the remake of superhit Marathi song "Kombadi Palali" and after Sheila and Munni, this seems to be the next 'it'  item song. While Katrina Kaif takes charge of the video, Shreya Ghoshal lends the voice and with the hype already created, no doubt this song is to stay for a while.

After "Chikni Chameli", there's a change in the atmosphere with Roop Kumar Rathod presenting "O Saiyyan". The track rides as a slow love song although at fractions it hints more towards being a sad song through Rathod's voice and the lyrics. Despite it being slow, in the end, it turns out to be a worthy listen.

There's a spark with the next song, "Gun Gun
Gunna", almost as if the fun hype has once again returned. The music lives on fun beats along with enjoyable lyrics, getting you on your feet to shake a few moves. Sunidhi Chauhan initiates the number with Udit Narayan joining in on the fun towards the end. "Gun Gun Gunna" overall is an enjoyable hear.

A Qawwali next, there are twists and turns galore in "Shah Ka Rutba". Man of the song is undoubtedly Sukhwinder Singh, although Anand Raaj Anand and Krishna Beura also weave in their magical voices. The USP of the track? Albeit slowly, the music shows increases in dramatic affect, especially towards the end, with it keeping you in tenterhooks, eager to know how it will be used in the film.

A romantic track, "Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin" follows and is sung by none other than the romantic crooner himself, Sonu Niigam. His voice definitely adds a tier to the song, making it a peaceful listen, especially when it is coupled with such mesmerizing music. Although at a slow pace, the song is one not to be missed out on.

Last in the album we have "Deva Shree Ganeshsa". Being a song for Ganpati, and including factors such as the fast tempo, the high dramatics of the song are much welcomed. Ajay Gogavale's vocals throughout only make it more perfect. With how this song turns out, you might just be hearing it for Ganesh Chathurthi next year.

There are undoubtedly varieties of songs included in this album giving it rich pickings to cater to everyone's needs. Also, a stand away from the usual including of remixes keeps the album simple and neat, if not original. It is definitely worth listening to Agneepath's music at least once, just to see what this album has to offer.
