The multi-faceted television presenter, radio jockey, model and voice over artist, Mantra has set a different standard all together for unconventional artists like him.

In an attempt to be a part of out-of-the-box projects, the actor will now be seen in 'Rebellious Flower', the first ever biopic inspired by the life and vision of Osho Rajneesh. Backed by the Osho Foundation, Pune, the short-film directed by Krishan Hooda won a 'Special Mention Jury Award' at Salento International Film Festival held in Tricase, Italy 2015.

Focusing on the story of a young boy, Raja, living in a remote village of central India with his maternal grandmother and grandfather will have an inborn fire for asking questions as he will be gifted with deep underlying clarity to accept only the right answers. His underlying questions about meaning of life will make him stumble upon three mysterious mentors which will eventually change his perception about inquiry into eternal mystery of existence.

Tellybuzz, speaks to RJ Mantra who will portray three roles in the movie - Masto Baba, Paggal Baba and Magga Baba, the gurus of Osho Rajneesh.

This project is certainly unconventional. What prompted you to take up this biopic?

I never believed in being conventional. 'Rebellious flower' is anything but that. I first met the producer, Swami Jagdish Bharti in Pune, when he had come to watch my play. He expressed his wish of making a film on the master Osho Rajneesh. And i being a lover of Osho, considered it like a wish of our master and got on board.

Are you a believer of Osho?

There are followers of Osho and then there are believers. In this case, I am a lover of Osho and have been associated with the foundation from the past 20 years. I started my journey from the Jabalpur Osho ashram which is the home town of Osho himself. I believe, after Gautam Buddha if there has been any spiritual revolution it has been of OSHO.

What was so unique about your character? Please elaborate on your role.

I play 3 roles in the film - Masto Baba, Paggal Baba and Magga Baba. These people have always been mentioned in the unofficial biography of Osho. The three mystics have been credited for shaping up his spiritual being in his formative years.

Although no photographic record has been found of either one, it was difficult to imagine how they would have actually been. Thus as an actor I had to research a lot and being an avid Osho lover it was extremely overwhelming to play characters who i had been reading about for two decades.

Could you please elaborate on how was playing 3 characters a challenge for you?

Magga baba was a very old man and never spoke any language. Infact, he had his own language, which only Osho used to understand. In the film i have attempted to design a new language for Magga. We used prosthetic make up to achieve a desirable look.  Prosthetic rubber make up was being used in 45 degrees heat of Madhya Pradesh! Luckily it did not melt away. For Paggal baba we used original ashes from the crematorium which was a spooky experience.

Way to go Mantra!
