Manipur women violence: Akshay Kumar, Kiara, Sonu Sood & others express their dismay over the incident

In a deeply distressing incident, a video of two women from Manipur being subjected to a heinous assault, including being stripped and paraded naked, emerged on the internet on July 19. The state of Manipur has been grappling with communal clashes between the Meitei community in the Imphal Valley and the Kukis from the hills since May this year. As the news of the appalling incident spread, Bollywood celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, Renuka Shahane, Richa Chadha, Sonu Sood, and others, voiced their condemnation of the violence that unfolded in the state. Akshay Kumar was among the first to react, expressing his shock and disgust on Twitter and calling for severe punishment for the perpetrators to deter such horrifying acts in the future. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice across the nation. 

Akshay's tweet read, "Shaken, disgusted to see the video of violence against women in Manipur. I hope the culprits get such a harsh punishment that no one ever thinks of doing a horrifying thing like this again." Actress Renuka Shahane took to Twitter to denounce the inhumane violence and questioned the lack of intervention to stop the atrocities in Manipur. She raised a poignant question, asking if witnessing the disturbing video of the two women didn't shake people to their very core, how can they even consider themselves human, let alone Bharatiya or Indian?

Kiara Advani also voiced her opinion regarding the same expressing her dismay. She wrote, , "The video of violence against women in Manipur is horrifying and has shaken me to the core. I pray the women get justice at the earliest. Those responsible must face the most SEVERE punishment they deserve."

Richa Chadha expressed her strong condemnation, describing it as "Shameful! Horrific! Lawless!" Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood echoed his deep concern, emphasizing that the incident not only harmed the women involved but violated humanity itself.

Writer Kanika Dhillon also expressed her disappointment at the horrific act and fervently called for justice for the victims. As public fury continues to grow, it is evident that the gravity of the incident has deeply affected people from all walks of life. 

The collective call for justice underscores the urgent need to address such heinous acts and ensure the safety and security of women in the country
