KWK8: Sunny Deol on 'Gadar2' Vs. 'OMG2' clash: "I asked Akshay, please don't do it if it's in your hands"

Among the highlights of the conversation, Sunny Deol addressed the clash between his film, OMG 2, and Gadar 2, shedding light on his conversation with Akshay Kumar to avoid the clash and his emotional response to the situation.

The discussion was initiated by host Karan Johar, who brought up the clash between Gadar 2 and OMG 2, and inquired if Sunny had spoken to Akshay Kumar regarding the potential clash. Sunny Deol confirmed that he had indeed reached out to Akshay, expressing his preference for a solo release. He recalled, "I asked him, 'please don't do it if it's in your hands,' but he said no, the studio, and all that... and they said that anyways two films can release, so I said, okay, go ahead. I can just request; I can't do anything more than that."

Karan Johar delved further into the dynamics of the film industry, emphasizing an old order that had a greater sense of integration and fraternity, where filmmakers used to communicate and collaborate. He asked Sunny if he felt that OMG 2 wasn't considered significant enough to secure its release date, given that it had been announced earlier.

Sunny Deol responded with a candid and emotional perspective, saying, "It's a very emotional thing if you ask me, frankly because I thought my film was releasing, and I haven't had a success for donkey's years, and I didn't want anybody else's to come along with it. Well, but you can't stop anybody. So obviously, it does hurt you. But then I said, I mean, does it matter? Let's go along with it. Doesn't matter. Let's just do it."

The host acknowledged that despite the clash, both films performed well at the box office. Sunny Deol shared that while both films did achieve success, he initially hoped to secure more theaters for his film without competition. However, the massive success of Gadar 2 surprised him, as it even opened single screens across the country.
