Popular comedian and actor, Kevin James' return to primetime TV series with Kevin Can Wait wasn't exactly a fully-successful attempt. Even though the first season was decent, they absolutely spoiled the second season and before one knew, the ratings fell drastically and the show was in fact canceled after two seasons.
Nevertheless, it seems, we won't have to wait too long for the actor to be seen on series TV. According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin has been roped in to play the lead role and executive produce Netflix's upcoming comedy series, The Crew.
The series is said to be set in a NASCAR garage with James playing a crew chief. When the owner steps down and passes the team off to his daughter, James finds himself at odds with the tech-reliant millennials she starts bringing in to modernize the team.
The series is being produced in partnership with NASCAR, with managing director of content development Matt Summers and chief digital officer Tim Clark overseeing for the racing company.
Jeff Lowell will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer. James' longtime manager, Jeff Sussman, will executive produce alongside Todd Garner.
An episode count and premiere date have yet to be determined. James' move to Netflix comes as the company continues to bring proven broadcast actors and showrunners to the streaming space with the lure of sizable upfront paydays and alleged creative freedom.
