In the glitzy world of Bollywood, stories of actors' journey to success often involve unexpected twists and turns. One such tale is that of Katrina Kaif, who, despite her initial reluctance, found herself in the heart of a critically acclaimed film, New York, directed by Kabir Khan.

Katrina recently revealed in a candid interview with Mid-Day the intriguing backstory of how she landed the role. Initially set to be the fourth girl in Bachna Ae Haseeno, fate took an unexpected turn, and her character was eventually cut from the film. This setback was disheartening for Katrina, especially since she had harbored a desire to collaborate with Yash Raj Films for quite some time.

Shortly after this disappointment, Aditya Chopra reached out to her for a new project - New York. However, when Katrina first heard about the film, she perceived it as a small, artsy venture devoid of the glamour of song and dance. She confessed, "I thought Kabir Khan was like a documentary filmmaker. After taking away a big commercial film like Bachna Ae Haseeno, he gave me this art film, New York. And I was not very happy about it. I was angsty in my heart."

It was at this juncture that Salman Khan, a crucial figure in Katrina's life, stepped in to provide encouragement. Having worked with Kabir Khan on Kabul Express, Salman vouched for the director's capabilities and the potential brilliance of New York. Despite her reservations, Salman's positive impression convinced Katrina to take on the role, albeit with a sense of reluctance.

As Katrina walked onto the New York set, she was initially surprised by the smaller crew and the absence of elaborate setups, having just experienced the grandeur of Singh Is Kinng's success. However, her perception underwent a remarkable transformation during the filming process. What she thought to be a smaller film turned into one of the most incredible experiences of her life. The camaraderie she built with her co-stars became enduring friendships, and working with Kabir Khan proved to be a transformative experience that instilled in her the confidence to find her voice.
