Actor and singer Karan Oberoi was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Friday after spending almost a month in the judicial custody. The 41 year old actor who was arrested on rape charges filed by an astrologer, wrote a letter to the Oshiwara Police to immediately carry out an effective investigation into the attack staged by the rape accuser on herself.
According to reports from Bombay Times, the actor has kept “options open to prosecute you (police) for having committed the offence of shielding the accused” if the Police fails to probe effectively into the matter. The letter also highlights the fact that the Police has not questioned the woman even 10 days after she was accused of staging the attack on herself.
Karan’s lawyer, Dinesh Tiwari also requested the police to “collect evidence so as to bring on record the meeting place of the accused where conspiracy was supposed to have been hatched”.
About the attack, last month, the woman who accused Karan filed another FIR after she was allegedly attacked by two bike-borne men who slashed her arm with a blade during her walk in Andheri West. In her police complaint, the woman said, “I am undergoing treatment for depression and my doctor has advised morning walks. On Saturday, I left home at 5.40am and took an autorickshaw to Lokhandwala Circle. From there, I walked towards Millat Nagar back road to reach Yamuna Nagar junction and Joggers Park, where two men on a bike began to follow me. They attacked me and threw a chit with ‘take back the case’ scribbled on it.”
However, later when the attackers were arrested, one of the men revealed that woman’s lawyer asked them to attack on her.
