Kapil Dev reveals why watching '83' became too emotional for him

Kapil Dev recently shared insights into his experience watching the sports drama film 83, featuring Ranveer Singh in his portrayal of the cricket legend. During a conversation on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, Kapil disclosed that although he had watched the movie multiple times, the emotional weight became overwhelming, prompting him to cease further viewings.

In the podcast, Kapil emphasized his preference for maintaining detachment, consciously avoiding deep emotional involvement in the film's narrative. He admitted to feeling emotional during the screening but chose to halt his viewings at that point. 

Reflecting on a poignant moment in the movie, Kapil singled out the scene where coach Man Singh salutes the ground during the match against Zimbabwe as particularly touching, describing it as a profoundly emotional moment.

Delving into the backdrop of the era depicted in 83, Kapil shed light on the challenges faced by the Indian cricket team during his time as captain. Recounting the days when the team received second-class treatment and was not considered successful, he underscored the remarkable transformation of Indian cricket into one of the most lucrative global sports.

Turning attention to the film's reception, it's noted that 83 faced challenges in recovering its considerable expenses at the box office due to an unfortunate release just before the second lockdown. Despite this financial setback, 83 garnered predominantly positive reviews, with Ranveer Singh addressing the film's performance on Koffee with Karan. 

Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 featured Ranveer Singh in the lead role and Deepika Padukone in a cameo.
