New Self-Regulatory Body for OTT Platforms To Be Introduced In India Soon

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) will soon release a new content code that will lead to the formation of Digital Content Complaints Council (DCCC) if the sources of a leading portal are believed to be true. DCCC will be a self- regulatory body that will accept and seek to resolve complaints of all OTT platforms.

This is not the first time IAMAI has tried to come up with a body to regulate the complaints of OTT platforms. The final draft of the first attempt of IAMAI was signed by all the platforms but this second attempt draft still has not been signed by Netflix and Arre, according to the sources.

Among others who signed the first draft were Hotstar, Voot, Zee5, Sony LIV, ALT Balaji, Jio and Eros Now.

Amazon Prime, Yupp TV and TVF Play had chosen to stay out of the first draft.

As per the sources, the new draft mentions that the signatories will have to accept any content related complaints from government bodies.

Every content provider will also have to set up a Digital Content Complaint Forum which will resolve complaints and overlook guideline compliance of content. It also further states guidelines for how grievances will be resolved and how the same can be filed by consumers.

Stay tuned to this space for more such updates.
