Hollywood Remakes By Bollywood

BollyCurry brings to you an article recognizing a few of the many Hollywood movies Bollywood has unfortunately taken credit for.

With so many talented actors, script writers, directors, producers and choreographers, it's no wonder Bollywood is one of the largest centers of film production in the world. However, once in while, these prominent script writers and directors suffer from writer's block just, as any other writer. Yet unlike most, when Bollywood runs out of ideas, there's only one solution - remake of a well-known Hollywood blockbuster which will ensure that it will also earn them just as much money. With the month's new theme of 'Bollywood vs Hollywood' in mind, BollyCurry brings to you an article recognizing a few of the many Hollywood movies Bollywood has unfortunately taken credit for.

TaRa Rum Pum - Days Of Thunder

TaRa Rum Pum featuring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherji was of a movie of a race car driver who meets with an accident during a race. After his recovery and many twists later, he makes a comeback to defeat his nemesis in order to win money to save his son who is in hospital. The Hollywood original, Days of Thunder starring Tom Cruise, released in 1990, much before its Bollywood counterpart. The lead character in the movie was also a race car driver and happened to injure himself in an accident during a race. Following that, he was seen returning back to the race track to finish off a race and beat a well-known driver. Inserting in a plot twist here and there does not mean it's not plagiarism, Bollywood!

Heyy Babyy - Three Men and a Baby

Heyy Babyy, the Bollywood movie that released in 2007, starred Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deskmukh and Vidya Balan. In the movie, Kumar's character is seen to have had a fling with Balan who believed she was in love with him and he in love with her. She then gets pregnant and Balan's father leaves her baby girl at the doorstep of the house of the three men, not specifying which of the three was the father. In looking after the baby, all three begin to from an attachment to her until Balan returns to take her baby back after having found out that that's where baby was hidden. In this case, Heyy Babyy is a complete knockoff of the Hollywood movie, Three Men and a Baby in which three men find a love child of one of them at their doorstep. The mother returns to take the child back and all three men rush to the airport to stop her. Stealing a top grossing movie is nowhere near the etiquette of creativity!

Partner - Hitch

Partner gave us the epic jodi of Govinda and Salman Khan. The story is of a Love Guru, played by Khan, who solves the love issues of his clients. Govinda, who is in love with his billionaire boss played by Katrina Kaif, happens to be his most difficult client. In the process of helping Govinda, Khan himself falls in love with a journalist played by Lara Dutta. Hitch, the popular 2005 Hollywood flick with Will Smith is the original movie wherePartner was copied from where Smith plays a Date Coach. Throughout both movies, misunderstandings lead to both couples breaking up and the Date Coach/Love Guru convincing the other two to reconcile. Hopefully we'll see the Govinda and Khan once again in an original comedy movie, but until then this Partner is officially termed a remake!

Singh is Kinng - Miracle

The box office hit starring Akshay Kumar, Singh Is Kinng, is about a man from a Punjab village who sets out to Australia with a friend to bring back two fellow village brothers-turned-gangsters for the sake of the parents. The plot of the movie was entirely 'inspired' by the Chinese movie Miracles where Jackie Chan played the main lead. Chan's character ends up being the successor of a gang upon having to assist the dying gang leader during a fight. The rose provided by a flower seller proves to be good luck for him just as the rose given by Kirron Kher in Singh Is Kinng is to Kumar. It boggles our mind to understand how Bollywood gets away with remaking movies that are already made and successful!

Dostana - I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

The movie that brought forth the bromance of John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan also happens to be a remake of the Hollywood movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. In both movies, the two characters are put in a situation where due to a misunderstanding, the two are considered to be a gay married couple. The truth finally comes out when past flings come forth to claim that they are not, in fact, homosexual. Lighten up on the remakes, Tinsel Town!

Despite there being such creative minds in the industry, Bollywood often resorts to plagiarizing Hollywood movies in the hopes of earning money off the audience. But the time has come where the viewers have become more aware and it is usually the original movies that are most appreciated. Try it out B-Town, it just might work out! After all, quality is valued over quantity.
