Good Newwz Review: A Humorous Kick to your Stomach that makes you Laugh!

Good Newwz features the story of two couples - Deepu (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and Varun Bhatra (Akshay Kumar), Honey (Diljit Dosanjh) and Monika (Kiara Advani) who are eager to conceive a baby. But, the sperm mix-up stirs in the whole procedure brings a huge blunder in their life.

The film starts off with a major detail by offering a piece of character's background and level of sophistication. Initially, we are introduced to Varun and his intricate life who is tired of the monotony as his wife - Deepu always keeps nagging for his contribution to conceiving a child. The sequence clearly hints at how an everyday activity can be so hilarious. The duo constantly tries to make peace with their situation and finally come to a conclusion to their problem; no sooner they are about to put an end to their issue the plot is suddenly grasped by Honey (Diljit Dosanjh) and his wife (Monika) and Bang! There you have it... 

The sudden twist in the storyline punches you with a knock out blow. But, it could have been better if at all Good Newwz planned on using Diljit at his full potential. You're already at the turning point but stereotyping a character like him would have made the film resilient to the grey areas of the exposition.

Looking at the history of Bollywood's comedy films; storylines are the least common denominators to make the cut and when an intriguing storyline is scheduled to be released it definitely piques the audience's interest. But a successful story needs to be in sync with its characters. The problem with this film was it's characters and the climax.

Frankly, the film is quite decent coordinated with new-age sensible humor but the loosely defined characters can turn lethal for such a film and Good Newwz seems to be a victim of exactly the same.

Akshay saved the film at several spots, but if given a thought; Diljit could have done the same if his character was defined and equally impacting. Akki fails to get rid of his overacting and the years of the backlog which clearly lacked a successful comic character was the sole reason. He really overdid it after Varun smokes a joint and you can clearly see the overacting that does not seem to end. 

Frankly, every other commercial film discusses stories from the north; either it can be from Punjab or at times it is from Uttar Pradesh. Why... Couldn't people from other parts of India face such issues?

The film talks about the stereotypical image of parenthood wherein parents are skeptical of their bloodline and taking on their legacy. The film aimed at getting rid of such delicate topics about common stereotypes in Indian society but yet again Bollywood has proved how stereotypical the industry can be!

The Raj Mehta directorial definitely focused on getting a few brand new songs in the market. And the film did offer pretty reasonable songs. As a matter of fact, they are shot very well and the amount of energy Kareena and Akshay have poured is just exceptional. But is that it? If you have composed these songs for a film why not make better use of it that would add on to the film’s excellence? 

It's an era that defines the excellence of an actor and how they perform in a monologue and that’s what the director planned on doing with Kareena. They actually added a monologue that somehow talks about women and the birth process. Why...Why couldn’t they keep it a ready-to-go mildly spiced comedy-drama?

Perhaps, Kiara was a bit sidetracked from the attention and the film majorly focused on Kareena, Akshay, and Diljit. Her character somewhat felt conflicting the issues in parallel space, she didn’t seem to be the part of the same plot.

The film has several unseen errors and it needed some polishing on the scripting as well. Alas, nothing can be done now! The errors might not be at the foresight, but you can’t deny the film does have a plethora of mistakes. The film is enjoyable but to its fullest extent, it can never be a wholesome release.
