Akshay Kumar is back to enlighten you with a dose of patriotism. And this time it is the untold tale of the first India Hockey Team after independence, that bought a home it's first GOLD as a free Nation.

The film completely revolves around the difficulties faced by our hockey team post-independence and post-partition and despite that how they managed to get home it's first Gold as a free Nation.

Akshay Kumar as always has been excellent in portraying a true a patriot. However, the Bengali Babu look didn't suit him or we can say he failed to live up to his character because we are so used to watch him as a Punjabi Munda.

Kunal Kapoor has been excellent with his performance. He plays the captain of Indian Hockey team pre-independence. Amit Sadh has been a surprise package. He plays Nawab Raghubir Pratap Singh and the vice-captain of the new team formed post-partition and has pulled off his Nawabi side so well.

The film marks the Bollywood debut of two television divas, Mouni Roy and Nikita Dutta and both the ladies have been flawless in living up to their characters.

While Nikita plays a Punjabi girl, Mouni plays a Bengali girl and Akshay's wife. Nikita has pulled up her Punjabi kudi look with panache but Mouni has gone a bit overboard with acting. The essence of high-end television drama has still not left her.

The first half of the film is gripping and there are scenes that give you goosebumps and enlighten the patriot in you. However, the second half of the film gets predictable and starts giving you the feel of watching a revised version of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Chak De'.

Overall, 'Gold' is a must watch to understand the unheard chapter of Indian history. So this independence, grab hold of your near and dear ones, especially all the kids in your house and take them to watch Gold in cinemas near you. Celebrate Independence with a beautiful tale of true independence.
