Colors'
is soon to present to the viewers a refreshing new show Gurbani that is rooted in Punjabi culture and backed by a strong concept that borders on the theme of a social malaise -
desertion of brides by NRI grooms that is prevalent in various regions of Punjab. Gurbani
is the story of young and spirited girl from Punjab with dreams in her
eyes of an NRI wedding and a happy life thereafter. The show is slated
to take the
10.30 pm time slot in March.
The show brings popular actress
Navni Parihar on television back after many years; she was last seen in films like
Tanu weds Manu, Page 3, Lucky, Shararat, Andaaz etc. In Gurbani,
Navni will be seen adorning the role of Rano, a woman in the age of
forty who has been abandoned by her husband long back but has been
waiting patiently at a railway station with the hope
that he will return someday to take her along.
Talking about Gurbani and her return to television, Navni says – "When I heard the story of Gurbani and my character, I could not say no to playing Rano. The concept of the show touched my heart and moved me completely. However had it not been for Rano and the many women like her, I might not have chosen to return to television."
Rano will represent the excruciating story of all those newlywed brides who are left behind by their husbands. In the promo, Rano will be seen dressed up in her bridal finery at a railway station waiting for her husband's return.
