Bollywood's Brainless Beauties

B'Town's leading ladies seem to be okay with accepting mediocre roles in big films.

Most of us believe that beauty and brains go hand in hand, but as of late, the films that we have been watching have made us think otherwise. B'Town's leading ladies seem to be okay with accepting mediocre roles in big films. Looks like they don't want to push the boundaries and are content playing second fiddle to the hero. Don't believe us? Then check out our list of Bollywood's "brainless" beauties.

Katrina Kaif

Fondly known as the Barbie doll of Tinsel Town, Kaif has done some strong roles in films like Raajneeti (2010) and New York (2009)But she makes us question her acting - and thinking - abilities when one looks at the film choices she has made in the recent past. In recent times with Bollywood giving importance to character-based performances, it beats us as to why Kaif would make movie choices such as Dhoom 3 (2013) and Bang Bang (2014). Let us take a look at Bang Bang for instance. She had no prominent role to play other than that of a pretty damsel-in-distress. She was seen romancing and dancing with Hrithik Roshan, an eye-pleasing sight indeed, but we definitely think Kaif can make better choices in the future, and take up more substantial and meaty roles. We are sick and tired of seeing her play the same roles repeatedly. Why not try something new next time around, Ms. Kaif?

Sonakshi Sinha

Sinha made an impressive debut into Bollywood with Salman Khan's Dabangg (2010) and won accolades for her performance. In the recent years though, her choice of scripts has seemed to hit an all-time low. Sinha has made horrible decisions by choosing films like Holiday - A Solider Is Never Off Duty (2014), Action Jackson (2014) and Tevar (2015). Holiday - A Solider Is Never Off Duty is a great film, of that we have no complaints. We do however have a problem with this leggy lass's role in the film. In a film that spans almost three hours, she was seen for a maximum of twenty minutes. Her role isn't anything new, the same-old boring leading lady who falls in love and bursts into a bucket of tears when she sees her love going away. We give her the benefit of the doubt - perhaps she wanted to star in an Akshay Kumar film, but then again, she already starred opposite the Khiladi in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara! (2013), and if she really wanted this, she should have waited for something like BABY (2015), where Taapsee Pannu barely had a role, but won the hearts of many a critic. Sinha's list of problems seem to be increasing as now she has a new issue to take care off along with her fashion troubles.

Tamannaah Bhatia

Bhatia is a leading actress down south and is often praised for picking out well etched characters. Well, we definitely disagree with that! We would like to ask the petite actress about her reason for signing Sajid Khan's disastrous film Humshakals (2014). We have immense faith in Bhatia's acting chops, but why would she choose to play a character that does nothing but suck up to the hero and dance with him in a few songs? We think we have an answer for that. She was trying too hard to get a big break into mainstream Bollywood! Well, we hope that Bhatia learnt her lesson and will make better choices if she is ever offered another Bollywood film!

Daisy Shah

Shah took the plunge into Bollywood with Salman Khan's Jai Ho (2014). Everyone must have thought that she was so lucky that she was debuting opposite Khan, but her career thus far says otherwise. Jai Ho is probably one of the worst remakes of a movie from the South in Bollywood's history, and that is saying a lot! Even though the film received mixed reviews, no one - and we mean no one - will ever remember Shah's role in the film. She played Tabu's friend Rinky in the movie, a character who then gets kidnapped by goons and later falls in love with Jai (Salman Khan). A big debut that went the wrong way!

Jacqueline Fernandez

After an impressive start to her innings, Fernandez landed her first true lead role opposite Salman Khan in Kick (2014), where she played Dr. Shaina Mehra. The film received mixed reviews from both the audience and critics. Fernandez does a great job with the role she is given and proves that she is definitely more than just another pretty face. However, the issue lies with the way the character is shaped during the film. The role has absolutely no scope for a solid performance and seems like the role of a typical Bollywood heroine. Better luck next time Ms. Fernandez.

It's not about playing the same dumb role over and over again. The time has finally arrived when one should experiment and do interesting roles. We hope these actresses take these films as a life lesson and choose meatier and more sensible roles in the future. Let us know your views in the comment box below.
