The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the extortion case involving Sameer Wankhede, the former NCB zonal director, and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son, Aryan Khan. According to recent reports, model Munmun Dhamecha, who was arrested in the Mumbai drug cruise case in October 2021, has been summoned by the CBI to record her statement.

In May of this year, the CBI had registered a criminal case against Sameer Wankhede, alleging that he had demanded a staggering amount of Rs 25 crore from Shah Rukh Khan in exchange for securing Aryan's release in the drug-related case. The charges levied against Sameer include Sections 7, 7A, and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 388 (extortion by threat) of the Indian Penal Code.

Munmun is expected to present herself before the CBI to provide her statement on the matter.

It's worth noting that earlier in the case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the NCB had dropped Aryan Khan's name, citing allegations of corruption and discrepancies. The SIT stated that Aryan had been unfairly targeted in the case. In recent times, there have been reports indicating that both Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan may also be summoned by the CBI to record their statements regarding the bribery accusations. The agency believes that gathering their statements is vital to uncovering the depths of the alleged conspiracy.

Meanwhile, seeking protection from any potential action by the CBI, Sameer Wankhede has been granted relief by the Bombay High Court.
