Alia Bhatt exits Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana' project; Yash's role progresses - Report

Following the underwhelming performance of Om Raut's 'Adipuruh' at the box office, eager fans were turning their attention to Nitesh Tiwari's take on the epic tale of "Ramayan." The celebrated filmmaker, known for his commendable work, had been in the spotlight since June 2023, as news emerged about his ambitious project 'Ramayana.' The film's star-studded cast included Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and 'KGF' sensation Yash, signaling an exciting cinematic endeavor. However, recent developments have unveiled a change in the project's trajectory, as Alia Bhatt exits the venture.

News broke that Alia Bhatt, who was initially approached to portray the pivotal role of Sita alongside Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of Lord Ram, has chosen to withdraw from the film. Recent news reports revealed that the complexity of crafting a magnum opus like Ramayana has led to meticulous pre-production efforts, emphasizing attention to the minutest details for a compelling on-screen rendition. 

While Ranbir Kapoor remains steadfast in his commitment to the role of Lord Ram, Alia Bhatt's participation faltered due to scheduling conflicts. She was in discussions to take on the portrayal of Goddess Sita, but regrettably, logistical constraints prompted her exit from the project.

Amidst these developments, Yash's involvement in the film remains intact, with his successful look test marking a positive step forward. The filmmakers express optimism regarding Yash's inclusion, though official confirmation is still pending. Notably, Yash's decision may hinge on his commitment to another major undertaking—an expansive action thriller helmed by National Award-winning director Geethu Mohandas. Yash's final decision for 'Ramayana' hinges on his priorities and scheduling considerations.
