Yami Gautam, who successfully made the transition from television to film, recently graced the silver screen in the comedy-drama "OMG 2," alongside heavyweights Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. What's even more impressive is that the film managed to shine brightly despite its clash with the much-anticipated "Gadar 2," marking Yami's triumphant return to theaters after a considerable hiatus.

In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Yami shared the intriguing story of how she landed the role of Kamini Maheshwari in "OMG 2." It all began during the lockdown in 2020 when Akshay Kumar himself reached out to her with the project. 

Yami recounted, "We were in the middle of the second lockdown when Akshay sir called me for OMG 2. Very honestly, he told me ‘This is one of the best scripts of my career. The story must come out. I would love to introduce my director to you.’" The director in question was Amit Rai, who then narrated the script to Yami. She noted, "I was very happy to see his active convictions, knowing that this subject would spark some fire and questions. We saw it as a discussion rather than a debate or question.”

Before "OMG 2," Yami's last theatrical appearance was in the 2019 comedy-drama "Bala," where she shared the screen with Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. While she explored the world of OTT platforms with projects like "A Thursday," "Lost," and "Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga." 

For the unversed OMG 2, helmed by director Amit Rai and produced by Aruna Bhatia, Vipul D. Shah, Rajesh Bahl, and Ashwini Varde, tackles the often-overlooked topic of sex education in the Indian education system.
