Akshay Kumar to play war hero Major General Ian Cardozo in 'Gorkha'; look out

It wouldn't be actor Akshay Kumar if we weren't talking about more and more movies coming out, isn't it? Kumar, who has been constant with an array of films releasing constantly where the likes of Bell Bottom released and Sooryavanshi will be releasing on Diwali, he already has other films lined up.

It seems Kumar has struck quite a working relationship with director-producer Aanand L Rai as he is already set to reunite with him for the third time. Kumar has already worked with Rai in yet-to-be-released films, Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan and now he will be working with him in another film in a different space altogether.

The film is titled Gorkha and it is based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a legendary officer of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army (5th Gorkha Rifles). The film will be helmed by national award winner Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.

Kumar will be essaying the role of the legendary war hero who fought in the wars of 1962, 1965, and most notably in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. On the occasion of Dusshera, Akshay made the official announcement. Sharing the first look posters with fans, the actor wrote, “Sometimes you come across stories so inspiring that you just want to make them. #Gorkha - on the life of legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo is one such film. Rai shared in a statement, “We are honored to bring the story of a legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo whose name goes down in history for his immense courage in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. I am also excited to work with Akshay sir again for the third time.”

Producer Himanshu Sharma added, "We hope to honor Major General Ian Cardozo in this film which will inspire many. Looking forward to this really special journey.”

Major General Ian Cardozo AVSM SM shared, “I feel honored for this story to be told on the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war. It commemorates the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces of India. I look forward to working with Anand & Akshay as they bring this to life. This story reflects the values and spirit of every officer of the Indian Army.”

We are already excited to see Kumar in a new role altogether.
