Amidst a wave of controversy, Om Raut's highly-anticipated film Adipurush seems to have faced a significant setback at the box office. On Monday, traditionally a crucial day for gauging audience response, the film's collections plummeted to a mere ₹20 crore. According to a report in Sacnilk, Adipurush witnessed a drastic decline after a strong opening weekend, during which it amassed ₹220 crore in India alone. The film earned ₹86 crore on Friday, ₹65 crore on Saturday, and ₹69 crore on Sunday, contributing to a global total of ₹340 crore. However, the Monday figures for the worldwide box office remain undisclosed.

Taran Adarsh, a renowned film trade analyst, took to Twitter to share the disappointing news of Adipurush's decline. He tweeted, "THE NEGATIVE WORD OF MOUTH HAS COME INTO PLAY… After a strong opening weekend, Adipurush COLLAPSES on Monday. Hindi version. India biz." Adipurush, a grand multilingual retelling of the Ramayana, faced widespread protests across several cities, leading to a ban on all Hindi films in Nepal. The film's controversy escalated further as audiences in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi took to the streets. In response, Mumbai Police granted security to dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla upon his request. Protests against the film took place in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and the national capital on Monday.

Directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in lead roles, Adipurush has faced criticism for its dialogue, colloquial language, and portrayal of certain characters from the beloved mythological epic. The film, released nationwide in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil on Friday, features Prabhas as Raghav (Ram), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (Sita), and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (Raavan).

The controversy surrounding Adipurush intensified as seers in Ayodhya demanded an immediate ban on the film, expressing their outrage over its dialogues.
