2023 - Year of women reigning box office ranging from 'Pathaan' to 'Barbie'

Box Office Successes in 2023

We’ve been halfway through 2023, and It is undoubtedly the women reigning the Indian Box office with their damdaar roles and mind-blowing performances. Be it Deepika Padukone’s sassy Rubina in the record-breaking Blockbuster Pathaan, also starring Shahrukh Khan and John Abraham, or the upcoming Marvel Studios’ release The Marvels featuring not one but three female superheroes, uniting forces to save the world! 

Here is a list of top five films that have already released or are upcoming releases that prove that 2023 is the year of compelling women characters and their stories ruling the box-office.

Pathaan (25th January)

Opening the year with a bang in January, Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer Pathaan featured a spectacular action thriller with strong characters. Padukone as Rubina especially stole the screen, an undercover agent whose mysterious appeal made her character an unforgettable one. And her mind-blowing action sequences and stunts that keep you hooked to the screen!

Mrs. Chatterjee v/s Norway (17th March)

Known for her applause-worthy roles, Rani Mukerji Chopra starred in the critically acclaimed film based on real-life events. Her portrayal of Debika Chatterjee, a mother who fights against the Norway government for her children, reaffirmed her acting prowess and exceptional talent as an artist. 

SatyaPrem Ki Katha (29th June)

Another 2023 blockbuster starring Karthik Aryan and Kiara Advani is Satyaprem ki Katha, which features Kiara in a surprising avatar. Kiara’s character Katha received rave appreciation from critics and viewers alike. Her solid range in acting, astounding screen presence and hooking chemistry with her co-lead made her amongst the top actresses of the year. 

Barbie (22nd July)

The highly anticipated Greta Gerwig film is making headlines for its unique storyline and exceptionally woke storytelling, where women are unquestionably ruling the film, and with supportive Kens behind them! Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer, Barbie is amongst 2023’s biggest hits and has women ruling the screen!

The Marvels (Diwali release)

All set to light up our Diwali this year is the dazzling and powerful trio of The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Ms, Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) whose unexpected power mix-up brings them together to fight evil forces. Interestingly, even the powerful Kree villain of the film is Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), a powerful female ruler who is hell bent on destroying Captain Marvel. It will be a truly spectacular sight to watch these strong women clash forces in The Marvel Studios’ latest offering! Marvel Studios India's The Marvels hits Indian theatres this Diwali in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
