Hello folks,

A warm welcome to the first contest in Srimad Ramayan forum. We are pleased to announce that this contest is all about showing your creative writing skills.

Ramayan, one of the most important Indian epics apart from Mahabharat, tells us the story of Maryada Purushottom Ram who was an avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu Narayan, and his journey to establish Dharma in the society. It also tells us the story of Devi Sita, who was Devi Lakshmi herself and born from mother nature, leading a life full of trials and tribulations, but always remained an epitome of strength and patience.

We bring this writing contest for you all based on Ramayan, to strengthen your knowledge on our great epic and giving a chance to you for reinterpreting the various series of events happened in the main epic, based on your own perspective.

We'll have two rounds in total for which there will be a given deadline.

First round is drabbles and second round is microtales.

Voting & judging both will be done to evaluate the entries.

If you love our epic as much as we do, bring out your pens/ink pots and papers and explore Ramayan again through your eyes. But there's a certain set of rules which you must follow before start writing. Please read the next post for the rules of this contest.

Mythology refers to stories that have roots in traditional lore and/ or ancient epics/ texts.

Since mythology is considered a component of religion, and can be a sensitive topic for most people, with the characters often being revered, we are amending the rules to set a few guidelines on permissible content for the Mythological stories for this contest based on Ramayan in the Srimad Ramayan forum.

Three types of fictions based on our great epic Ramayan are allowed in this contest.

1) Those derived directly from the afore-mentioned traditional lore or texts of Ramayan.

2) Those written based on Ramayan TV shows/ movies/ book retellings of 1.

3) Original stories with original characters based on Valmiki's Ramayan.

The following rules will apply:

A) All entries for this contest MUST adhere to the guidelines for either G or M rated fiction. No explicit content will be allowed i.e all R and X rated stories will be strictly disallowed.

Please note that the M rating is ONLY FOR Triggers such as descriptions or mentions of violence, war, gore, decapitation, calamity, natural disasters, death, suicide, self-harm etc. The extent of the Triggers should be Mild keeping with the guidelines for M rating, meaning no extensive or detailed descriptions on the above scenarios will be allowed.

Under no circumstances can the M rating be applied for writing about sex or sexual situations.

B) Types of stories that are permissible:

1) Retellings/ reinterpretations that describe canonical events in your own words. This can include a character's inner monologues, reimagining a canon scene from a different character's point of view, expanding on a scene/ story, or providing context for a particular event in the story.

2) Only canon romantic relationships are permissible between established characters from Valmiki's Ramayan.

NOTE: At all times, you MUST keep the sentiments of readers in mind when writing Mythological stories and not write anything that is/can be potentially offensive, hurtful, demeaning or dismissive of any religion, sacred text, rituals/practices/ culture, belief/values/ancestry, person/group .

The hosts of this contest (who are also the DTs of the "Srimad Ramayan" forum) reserve the right to withdraw any story that they found to be disrespectful of any religion/ race/ identity/ ability/ age.

This should be fun! Don't forget to announce it in the Creative Contests topic.

Is the purpose of this contest sharing/enjoying or voting/judging? Apart from submission by PM to Quantum-Dot, may we post our stories in this thread or this forum, or publish them in the Fan Fiction section? Or, do you expect authors to remain anonymous?
