I have a few sneaky and as you say naughty moments for them lined up. They will come as the story progresses. Currently in the story they both are attracted, but nothing beyond that. Besides Shivay is kind of a pain so he needs to get over that as well.

The Oberoi's in my story are certainly less evil than on the show and at times more sensible too :).

Unfortunately, I never had that kind of guy best friend. But, Anika and Om will bond. Since you like the pair so much, I will give you a small hint, Om will bring the two of them together next :).

But soon in the story you will see more Om and Anika, a healthy dose of Anika and Rudy and of course the leads will take the story ahead!

Keep up with the long comments, I am kind of addicted to them now <3 <3

Chapter 30: 24 Hours, Part 1

Hours 0-12:

1:00 am, Oberoi Mansion

Crash... phone number 20 for this month met the same fate as phone 19.  A week, yes at 8:00 PM in the evening today, it was a week since he saw Anika. He didn't care. So what if Dadi, Prinku and Rudy went to chat with her every other day. So what if they all spoke about the new exciting event in her life. Damn her if she was getting married. A really quick vision of Anika dressed in bridal red flashed in his mind and Shivay was ready to do the tandav. Disgusted, he snapped in a command into his private intercom "Khanna, new phone. Quick!"

He could actually find out what she was up to. So what if dadi, Prinku, Om and Rudy wouldn't tell. Honestly, whats the big deal? So she must be marrying some retard. 

Angry and irritated, Shivay paced about as he waited for Khanna to bring him his new phone, and it was thus that Kalyani found him. 

"Billu, what happened puttar?"  Asked Kalyani. "Dadi, why are you not in bed?" Snapped Shivay. "Billu, how many times have I told you, mujh pe gussa mat nikalna. Kya hua tujhe?" She asked softly as she chided him firmly. He could be the ruthless Shivay Singh Oberoi to the world, but to her, he would always be her blue-green eyed angel, full of love and petulance. Drawing in a deep breath Shivay calmed down and said "Sorry dadi, too much on my mind." "Billu, thats why, you should learn to ease off a bit. What happened, tell me." Said Kalyani drawing Shivay to rest in her lap, the way she used to when he was still a child.

"I am just very tired Dadi, waiting for Bade papa to come back." Sighed Shivay. "Arrey Billu, you don't worry too much. Tej ka to pata hai na... aajayega."  Soothed Kalyani. Both grandma and grandkid has a silent message for each other, much as they loved Tej, they both knew where and with whom he was at the moment, and it saddened them both. "Chal Billu, jaake soja. I am sure Rudy must have left just about enough space on your bed for you to sleep by his side and not Om's." Said  Kalyani helping Shivay to his feet. 

Relaxed, but far from reassured Shivay said "Sure Dadi, but first you go to bed." Saying so Shivay escorted Kalyani to her rooms, made sure she was tucked in and then retired to his.

As he prepared  to hit the bed, he couldn't but smile looking at Rudy sprawled all over, arms and legs where ever arms and legs could be. The poet's smile and calm were enhanced when Om slept. Peacefully. Looking at the major pieces of his heart rest in calm, Shivay willed himself to relax and settled down to sleep.

3: 00 am, Anika's Room

Stifling a scream for the sake of Sahil, Anika woke fitfully from her nightmare. The same nightmares plagued her again and again.  She was letting that little child slip away. Much as she tried to stop her, she could not. "No, No, No, don't let her go!" Screamed her heart and mind, yet her body was helpless, twisting and turning in bed. Just when she felt her purchase on the girl's arm tighten, she awoke. Bathed in sweat and restless. She quickly got off the bed, and made her way out lest Sahil wake up.

Once she was in the small balcony in, she let herself breath deeply and took in the fresh early morning air. The past one week left her frustrated above anything else. She started work with Paramveer Khurrana. It was as if someone paved a way for her, that she never knew existed for her. Yet she couldn't rejoice as much as she should have. Khurrana Sir was among those few lawyers who though grey, had more white patches on them than the others. He was old and weak, but still, once a lion always a lion. This was a fact not lost in the lawyer's circle. She knew that working with him would open doors and windows of opportunity that would never have come her way. Sahil would finally get the quality education he deserved. They would eventually own their own small house, away from the chawl. She would have enough money to buy herself and Sahil a small place in the world. Respect, she would get.

Yet, something was wrong. Her heart was agitated every single time of every single day. Anika knew that Khurrana Sir would never make her work with people she did not want to. That was taken care of the very first day she entered his office. "Anika beta," he said "You do not have to work with anyone, absolutely anyone that you don't want to." That look in his eye was a tacit understanding between the two of them. She did not need more. Sure, he was a criminal lawyer, but that did not mean he did not know about any other kind of law. Learns the ropes, learn the basics, then form opinions he said. 

"Yes!" She decided. She would learn, she would study. The past would not weigh her down.

Drawing in yet another breath of the cool morning air, Anika made her way to start the battle for the day.

10:00 am, Shivay Singh Oberoi's office

Two deals done, Shivay was feeling just about relaxed. The annoyances from last night were now pushed into an obscure corner of his brain. He had had breakfast with his family. In lavishing them with a varied buffet of breakfast food and experiencing first hand their delight, he felt the tensions slip away. Now if only he got the go ahead from Bade papa about their Swiss venture it would top his day. Making the Swiss weep was a particularly favorite activity of his. Besides, a trip to Switzerland would mean lots of chocolate for his two babies, Prinku and Rudy. 

A sharp knock on his door brought him out off his reverie. Looking up, he saw Khanna make a quick entry. Khanna murmured to the staff in Shivay's office and got his men to move them along. After ensuring that no one but Shivay and he were alone, and engaging devices to disengage all communication devices, Khanna turned to face a rather puzzled Shivay. 

Watching Khanna work to ensure absolute privacy, Shivay realized something major was about to happen. This was certainly silence before the storm. "Khanna?" Said Shivay, voice betraying nothing. "Sir," began Khanna in the same tone and voice that Shivay had assumed, "Here is a very secure line. There is a very important message on this for you." Saying so Khanna drew out a small mobile phone. 

Taking it with trepidation, Shivay brought the device to his ear, "Shivay. I need your help. Svetlana has f**ked me over. Meet me on our secure tarmac. Contact Khurrana and ask him to be ready." Said Tej's cool tone. The cool concealed a raging storm that Shivay recognized as potential danger. The thought of Om over all others had Shivay quickly getting to his feet and getting into action.

10:00 am, Paramveer Khurrana's office

The old lawyer had seen it all. Both in his professional and personal life. He had what people said was an amazing career. The world saw and knew of the highs in his life, but Paramveer was too aware of the lows. Rising in the world of criminal law was baptism by fire. He made choices he shuddered about even till day. His personal life had suffered. He lost love. His pride was his daughter, snatched away too soon by fate and his supposed joy was a son who was cause him immense sorrow. Life had whipped out most emotion from him, until the day he met Anika. 

All he saw first, was an overworked scholarship student. Trying to brave the odds to survive. But unlike the others before her, Anika fought her battles with a strong and admirable sense of dignity. Unyielding, the girl did not sell herself to the views of the world. The girl had a very sharp mind a natural flair for the law. While he saw that she had the mental acumen to make for a ruthless criminal lawyer, she seemed to have been born with an absolutely unmovable moral compass. "Criminal Law has the word criminal in it for a reason Sir!" She said respectfully, once after class when they were discussing her future options. Humoring her then, he let her be. The world will show her, he thought. After she graduated he kept tabs on her, not too closely but he did want to see what she made of herself. He was unsurprised when he heard of her financial difficulties from the Ranas. 

He was more than willing to take her own now for multiple reasons. One, he really wanted her to succeed. Two, the Ranas requested that he help her out with her goal of a securing a place in the local high court. Three, they hoped she would with eventual convincing, use her amazing skill in the field of corporate law. They were business men after all! he chuckled to himself, and above all she reminded him of the daughter he lost. The stone like Paramveer Khurrana did indeed have a soft spot. And Anika pulled at it.

He was thinking thus, when she walked in. Dressed in a pastel blue sari to suit the sombre tone of the profession, yet with a dash of wild color at her slippers and bangles to remind people that she was Anika, after all. The image of her made him smile. After many years, he again had to worry about a young girl's charm and the effect it had on the male members of his staff.

"Sir," began Anika, "I looked over the case file Sir. Clearly the accused is guilty, but I know you want me to make a case for his acquittal, and I tried..." she continued when he held up a hand to silence her. "How do you know he is guilty?" He asked. "Sir, the evidence..." she started, "It could be staged isn't it?" He cut her off. "The staging is too perfect, Sir." She said unperturbed. "Why is that?" He asked. "I looked at the crime scene evidence, and" but she was interrupted.  A low buzz was emanating from a recessed corner of the lawyer's office.

With his features schooled into stone like perfection, Paramveer looked Anika in the eye and said, "I will call for you. You can come back and finish your argument then. You may leave now."

Nodding and rising swiftly, Anika made her way out.

11:00 am, Secure Oberoi Tarmac, location undisclosed

Shivay watched his Bade papa get off a small plane. He lost weight and looked weathered down.  This was certainly not good. 

Tej Singh Oberoi looked at Shivay and thanked his stars. He knew he was an idiot, but he had hope still from Shivay. This was the biggest mess he had ever gotten into. He let his pride blindside him and now he prayed for the first time in years, that his mistakes would not make the ones he loved the most pay. But really who did Tej Singh Oberoi love?

Thinking thus, he made his way to where Shivay was waiting for him. "Bade papa" said Shivay and squeezed the his uncle hand, in a greeting customary to them. "Shivay, we need to get to work" said Tej. "Absolutely. Will you tell me now, what happened?" asked Shivay. "Is it secure?" Asked Tej. "Khanna and I have taken all precautions. Khurrana uncle is on his way. He will get here in about 30 minutes, like you instructed." Replied Shivay.

"Ok then," said Tej and proceeded to inform Shivay of the mess he had gotten into. He had just about finished when Khanna escorted Khurrana to the uncle and nephew duo. "Tej and Shivay" thought Paramveer, "An idiot, and an idiot in the making" he thought. He recognized the same battle scars that he had on Tej and hoped and prayed that Shivay didn't have them. But as Shivay grew, his hope for Shivay was waning.   

"Param, we need to talk." Said Tej and then repeated the same things he told Shivay to the old lawyer. 

After listening to everything, the lawyer said, "I am glad you know you are screwed. But, lets try to wiggle you out of this. Let me say this now, you are an idiot Tej. You seek my help, so you will listen to me. I will work this, the way I want to, with the people I want."

"How..," began Shivay. "Down boy, I have been around since even before you were born. Smash another phone if you must, but my word is law." Declared  Paramveer. "Fine uncle," said Shivay as he swallowed the rage in, "But I hope you stay objective about this. I want the best people  around. Which means, while you were' the best, I want the current best." He said looking the lawyer in the eye. 

Unperturbed the old lawyer said, "Fine. You can bring Daksh. But when I say so. For now, I will have one person on my team review details for me. I will plan an initial POA. Daksh won't like it, but both of you have no choice, since Tej and you both know only I can help you now. Besides bringing in Daksh now will let the media dogs loose. HE would agree to that as well. Besides, any leaks now and Svetlana will get wind of it. I suggest both of you go home. My assistant on this case will reach Oberoi Mansion shortly."

"And Shivay, you will work with my associate. I will not you question the skills of my team. Go now, both of you." And Khurrana as he instructed Khanna to drive him away.

1:00 PM, Paramveer Khurrana's office

"Anika, I want you with me on a case. It is top secret so I demand discretion. Any leak from you and I will have your head. Also, you have no option but to work with me on this one. I left an address on your desk, read it. Get there. Delete the note. Go there and wait for me. They will wait for you. Let them know I sent you." He ordered and stormed out.

Anika was perplexed. She knew Khurrana sir was not the one to joke around. Looking for the note with the address, she looked at it. Her sank as she read the Lawyer's prim and proper writing spell out the address. It was the Oberoi Mansion. 

Several alarm bells went off in her head. "Why?" Was all she could ask.
