Biswajeet Roy, is a very well known name in and around Kolkata. He belongs to the famous Roychaudhary family, one of the biggest Zamidaar families of Kolkata. The entire family i staunch devotees of Ma Durga and Ma Kali. They own the biggest Kali Mandir and Biswajeet heads the trust of Kali Mandir.
However the family has been undergoing turbulent times… their business has not been doing well and the family loses the eldest son Sarvadaman. To the world Sarvadama went missing, but Biswajeet believes that his brother will come back, and till he does, he will hold fort.
The family purohit had predicted that the bad phase will pass….with the birth of a baby girl. Yashomati was pregnant at that time, and believed that the child in the womb would be an answer to her and her husband Biswajeet's prayers. Unfortunately the child dies at birth and Yashomati is incapable of conceiving again. In such circumstances they find baby Rudra on the temple steps.. Initially Yashomati and Biswajeet accept the baby with open arms, but slowly Jaya (Biswajeet's siter) poisons Yashomati against Rudra , saying that she could be Biswajeet's illegitimate child … and this evokes ill feelings in Yashomati's mind against Rudra.
Slowly Yashomati's love and care for Rudra dies down, and Yashomatii starts ignoring and ill treating the girl. Biswajeet realises that Yashomati is not interested in taking care of Rudra. He hires a lady called Sunanda to look after Rudra. Sunanda, is none other than the abandoned Rudra's own mother(she deliberately leaves her on the temple steps as she knew she would be unable to raise the child on her own.). The story goes that she was secretly married to Sarvadaman… but could never reveal the truth as nobody would accept her as she was from the lower strata of the society.
But having done that she could not live without her and she takes up the job of Rudra's daima.
Sunanda is aware of the ill treatment meted out to her child but she is tongue-tied. Rudra grows up to be a beautiful girl, taking life with a smile. She has all the qualities that would make any one proud and Biswajeet is extremely proud of her. She is her father's(Biswajeet) strength, pride , and even the right hand in all the 'Trust' he looks after.
However Redraw is hated by her brothers and her bua – Jaya, who wants her daughter Protima to be adopted by Biswajeet .Now with Rudra there all her plans seemed to have failed.
Despite the hatred and ill treatment that Rudra faces, she is always there for her family… and she believes in upholding the family honor and she goes to any extent to protect her faily.
Rudra only has one longing … she craves for her mother, Yashomati's love and attention. However, Yashomati dotes on her two sons who bring only disrespect & bad name to the family.
As the story unfolds we find out that the Biswajeet passes the mantle of the 'Pratistha' to Rudra but she refuses and passes it on to the eldest son. This marks the beginning of the downfall for the family… as the story unfolds we realize the actual legitimate owner of the whole property is none other than Rudra.

Yashomati really wanted a daughter, but she gave birth to a still born. At the same time, Sunanda gives birth to a girl. A pundit had told the family that a baby girl will come to eliminate all their troubles. Yashomati can never have children again. Jaya decides to give her daughter to Biswajeet for adoption. Sunanda leaves her child on the temple steps and the chaudhray family adopts her and name her Rudra. A jealous Jaya poisons Yashomati's mind against Rudra and her parentage (claiming that she is Biswajeet's illegitimate daughter). Sunanda takes the job of Rudra's daimaa. As Rudra grows, all she wants is Yashomati's love, who keeps ignoring her. Jaya, Upendra and Bankib always mistreat Rudra. Sunanda and Biswajeet adore Rudra.
