About the Show

Story of a girl named Bhakti , living in a small village of Gujarat. She was labeled by all as being a unlucky, because her mother died as she gave birth to her, her father refused to see her face & just walked away without seeing her face. Her loving Nani has raised  Bhakti  single-handedly, & tried to protect her from people's taunts as far as possible. As Bhakti  grows up… the label of being unlucky stayed with her… she has no friends, no one to talk to, as no parent wished their children to be associated with her.She becomes a loner, quiet, scared of everybody, bearing the taunts of all.

She often asks her Nani, why doesn't anybody become my friend & if they do become why are they taken away. She also  asks her Nani about her parents… everyone has mother & father, then where's hers…? She even doesn't have a kid brother as others have…Her Nani never discloses the name & whereabouts of her father to Bhakti  & at the same time tries to pacify her with pleasing replies…To give Bhakti  hope & strength, Nani tells Bhakti  that God is her father, mother & friend, also presents her with an idol of the Baby Lord Krishna which Bhakti  accepts whole heartedly & calls it Gopal.

It becomes an important part of her life… She shares everything with Him… She even talks with the idol all the time… She plays with Him… ties Rakhee on the occasion of the rakhee festival… applies gulaal on the day of holi… this eliminates the loneliness from her life… Now Laddoo Gopal is everything for young Bhakti .It doesn't take long as Bhakti  gets into puberty… making her Nani think what should she do for Bhakti 's future.Nani herself doesn't keep well & is worried about how Bhakti  will settle down. She takes a decision to hand over Bhakti  to her father Arvind Mehta. She takes Bhakti  to Ahmedabad where her father is with his new family. However, when Nani brings Bhakti  to him & tells him to accept Bhakti  he refuses point blank & throws them out of the house.

With no where else to go Nani & Bhakti  come to a temple.Bhakti  is quiet after hearing what her father had said, Nani prays to God what will happen to Bhakti  now what does she do with her. There enter Five Bahurani's in the temple, they have come there for a puja but because of some coincidence they meet Bhakti  and are sure that she is right choice for their youngest Devar. They want a simple girl for him because they know, he is the favourite of their mother-in-law, who is bedridden & could die any moment, they wanted a devrani, who would not ask for equal share of the property, because they knew their youngest devar was too simple & obedient to ask for any thing.

The Five Bahurani's themselves are one worse than the other as characters… while one is super-lazy, another is a scheming, the otjer thinks she is too modern to be [art of thios family & so on…They have seen & rejected dozens of girls, as they want someone who's as Bhondu as their young devar.Through an incident, they see what a quiet, scared creature Bhakti  is, & decide she's best suited to be their 'bakra'.They put up an extra-sweet front, & convince the Nani that their granddaughter shall be very happy with their Devar, in their big house.

Bhakti  gets married to Mohan, the youngest son, & comes to her sasural.Mohan is so devoted to his brothers & bhabhi's that he doesn't even bother to meet Bhakti before the wedding, trusting their choice blindly.Theirs is an extremely sweet relationship of two underdogs… &, slowly, their relationship blossoms. The rest of the picture in the Nanavati house is not very pleasant… Devki, the mother, is bed ridden. She is not looked after by her five bahus who quarrel among themselves over trivial issues… The five older sons are not all bad as their wives, but due to various reasons, they keep quiet & don't interfere in issues around the home.Bhakti  takes special care of Devki & in the process also wins her heart.Devki gets the treatment from Bhakti  which she never got from her older bahus.Bhakti  establishes the Laddoo Gopal here also & with His help tries to fight against all the obstacles that the five older Bahus throw her way…

The Bahus don't treat her well, but Bhakti  has accepted her fate & has complete trust on her Laddoo gopalMeanwhile Devki slowly recovers from her prolonged illness… & Mohan becomes even more devoted to his wife… every credit goes to Bhakti.Devki hands over the keys of the house to Bhakti , throwing the older bahus into a tizzy. They cry over the fact that they will have to live under her control… &, as a first step, send away Mohan on work for 3 months, with the motive of getting rid of Bhakti  from the house by the time he returns.Unable to take their manipulations & to live so long without her loving husband, poor Bhakti  begins to wilt.At a key moment, & after a lot of penance, a young boy of 9 enters Bhakti 's life… almost miraculously…!

It's a scene where she's probably dying of thirst in the desert, & is on a fast to wish her husband comes back.An umbrella comes over her head, she looks up to see the small boy…He tricks her into opening her mouth, & almost miraculously, it ranis in the desert…!

Bhakti  has water…Is he an avatar of her Laddo Gopal…?

How will she take him home…?

Will this boy bring some succor to Bhakti 's life…?

Will the five bahu's let him stay…?

Mere Toe Girdhar Gopal is a simple, moving tale of love, hope & the strength of belief

There will be no miracles here… but for the miracle of life itself…
