CONCEPT & STORY
Betiyaan apni yaa… Paraaya Dhan is a high-intensity social drama set in Rajkot, Gujarat - a city rooted in its culture and traditions. It is the story of 6 daughters and 1 son born into a Zamindar family of Neelkanth Chanda Rana.
Neelkanth is a father who rebukes his daughters and considers them more a burden. They have come into his life only for the want of a son. Krishna, the eldest daughter and the protagonist, is based on Lord Krishna's character and personifies his depth of wisdom and breath of understanding. A simple, honest and principled girl, she is the balancing factor amongst her sisters. Betiyaan... may be considered the story of many a home in India where the daughter is a curse and the son, a blessing. Where it is believed that a son will take the family name further and a daughter is only a burden.
What happens to the daughters of the family? Do they succumb to the pressures of society? Do they stand up against all odds for their identity...

Full Name: Neelkanth Chanda Rana (Father)
Real Name: Rajiv Verma
Age: 45 years
An autocrat zamindar who has lost all his zamindari. Paisa nahi hai, par rutbe mein aaj bhi koi kami nahi hai... He is a man of few words. He seldom loses his temper because no one has the audacity to stand up against him but if by mistake, anyone crosses his path, God help that person!
"Jo keh diya so keh diya..." That's his attitude! His word must be the final one! He shares a warm relationship with his wife but talks to his daughters only when required. He thinks they are "Parayi amanat, jinko ek din apna ghar jana hai." He loves his son Nirvaan who he feels, will bring back the lost glory to the family.
Neelkanth has 4 sisters. He is the man who has lost a lot due to his sisters. Hurt by his sisters, he has not educated his daughters above SSLC. Does not give them any kind of freedom and has tied them to home. His insecurity makes him a strict father!

Neelkanth's wife. She loves her husband and her husband's word is the final word for her yet manages to get round him tactfully for her daughters. to some extent, she is a help to the daughters but loves and pampers her son to the extent of spoiling him!
She is a typical 'Gujju' housewife, tolerant, always smiling. She shares a very special relationship with her eldest daughter, Krishna.
All her life, she has been the ever obedient wife, very supportive to her husband even though she disagreed on many things because she thinks 'her pati is a parmeshwar' but there are times when she puts her foot down and says: "BAS". A signal to her husband to step back!

Age: 24 years
The eldest among the eldest daughters. Krishna's character is a female version of Lord Krishna. Like Lord Krishna, she uses all the weapons of Saam Daam Dandh Bhed for the good of the family. She is a devotee of lord Krishna and shares her inner feelings and dilemmas with him and gains strength by interacting with lord Krishna.
Whenever she is in a problem, she seeks solution from lord Krishna. She doesn't except defeat easily. She is a fighter in life and wins against all odds. She is a saviour for her brother Nirvaan and all younger sisters.
A simple girl with 'a girl next door' image. She stands up for her principals in life. Though she herself gets trapped into by situation, comes out of it unscathed. She believes in Karma and is a Karmyogini. Her being a Manglik has caused a hurdle in getting married.
After Parth's death she goes in a state of shock but recovers back slowly.

Age: 24 years
Dark complexioned and wearing specs... Channd is not a very good looking girl. She has a complex about her looks, no matter how much her sisters and mother try to console her. But God has his ways, he did not give her looks but gave her the brains! She is the most intelligent of all the sisters.
An introvert by nature and a sentimental and emotional person, she cries at the drop of the hat. She never talks abput her problems to anyone in the family and broods all by her self. The only thing she does is writing it down in a diary and vents out all her feelings.
One habit that is a part of her character: Whenever she is tensed or lost in thoughts, the first thing she does is take off her specs and start cleaning the lens with her handkerchief. She is very fond of making Rangoli and tries to fill her colourless life with the colours of rangoli.
Chand loves Parth. Her world is shattered when she is raped & later its revealed that Veer is behind it. She marries a man who is twice her age & has a daughter from his first marriage, with whom she falls in love.

Age: 22 years
Strong willed and extremely short tempered, she is fondly called the 'Jhansi ki Rani.' No one can win an argument with her as she always proves her point with logics.
Sabse badi baat yeh hai ki Veera ki haazir jawaabi se koi nahi jeet saka .!!
She loves her brother but does not cover up for his mistakes. In fact, she feels that her sisters and mother are spoiling his life. She always confronts him whenever he does something wrong.
An extrovert by nature, she has the habit of clenching her fists whenever in an argument. Sometimes, she bangs the table/wall/pillow/palm of her hand with her fists when she tries to prove her point (but not when she speaks to her father as she can hardly speak before him)
Her dream is to become a lawyer. She has secretly done her graduation through correspondence course. And is planning to fill the forms to do law. Only her sisters know about it. Her parents are not aware of it.

Bubbly and chirpy just like Preity Zinta. She is in love with life! She has no particular ambition in life and loves to talk!
A big chatterbox, she is always the centre of attraction once she starts talking but just that she always goes off-track once she starts talking and eventually forgets the main issue that can actually be told in just a single line!
Gunjan and Parth love each other but none are aware of this. Krishna also loves Parth… Now will Gunjan sacrifice her love for her sister.

Posters torn from film magazines hidden by calendars or other pictures or within her cupboard… That's al what you will find in her room. She loves reading magazines and has the habit of imitating all lead actresses. A good mimic, she watches TV all the time.
She is fond of singing filmy songs and dancing to them. She is in a world of her own. Chalti kam hai, naachti zyada! Aur nakhraa? Hai allah!!

The youngest of the sisters who is pampered by all of them, especially Krishna. She is gorgeous and stunningly beautiful, but then, blind!
But, God has compensated for this loss by giving her melodious Voice. She is a good singer. But then, whenever she is asked to sing during family functions, her father does not allow her.
She accepts life as it comes. Sweet natured with a lot of patience… she never argues with anyone but is emotionally dependent on Krishna. Krishna too is over protective of her.
One guy hears Koyel singing.. and he becomes fan of her.. he always come to hear her song but he doesn't know that she is blind… And one day, he comes with a marriage proposal at the Haveli… Will he still marry her, when he realises that Koyel is blind?

He is the youngest in the family and the only son born after six daughters. Reasons enough to make him thoroughly spoilt and pampered by one and all in the family, except Veera, who loves him but never gives into his mindless demands.
He is very shrewd by nature and takes advantage of all the support extended to him. He is very modern, trendy and loves to freak out with his friends. His parents are unaware of his smoking habits. His Badi Bua and her son Paras have led him to lead an 'ash tray' life.
He is a big time liar and often lands up in a mess. Later on its revealed that he is not the blood of Neelkanth Chanda Rana & is shattered & levaes his house. He faces the harsh truth of life & has a complete heart change & comes back to his house Satyug to stay with his family.

The eldest son of Viraj and Kuntal Jadeja he gets engaged to Krishna. He rapes Chand in a drunken state & very smartly puts all the blame on Parth but later this truth comes out in front of everyone. He fell from the cliff & was considered to be dead but he comes back this time he is apologetic for his wrong deeds. He is accussed of killing his brother Parth but is proved innocent in court on Chand's statement.

He is son of Viraj and Kuntal Jadeja who lives in Ahemdabad with his parents. He is very close to the Chandarana family as they are family friends. He often comes to Rajkot to settle land deals and stays with the Chandarana family.
He is tall and handsome. His winning smile, simplicity and straightforwardness makes him a very pleasant companion.
He loves Gunjan and respects Krishna (He is younger than Krishna) before starting any positive work, he always takes 'prasaad' from her hand. On day of his wedding with Krishna, his car meets with an accident & blasts & he is said to be dead but is he alive & returns back only to see Krishna getting engaged to Karan & decides to go back forever.

Jati Bua is a widow and Neelkanth Chandarana's third elder sister. She has a son called Paras and they live with her brother's family.
Jati Bua has a dual personality. She is superficially sweet to all but deep within, she strives hard to make a place for Paras in this family. She even gets Nirvaan spoilt for this. Jati Bua is not a vamp like Komolika and Ramola… just that she has a natural grey shade in her character because since she became a widow, she had to leave her house and make her place in this family.
She sarcastically but sweetly taunts the daughters. And she is forever looking for an opportunities to catch them on the wrong foot. She dominates her younger sister Sati (choti Ben) and treats her like a slave.
All in all, an interesting character. And by being grey she is a great comic relief! She talks in a typical 'Kathiawadi' accent.

She is a younger sister of Jati Bua. She is spinster who lives in the shadow of her sister Jati. Jati treats her like a slave.
She is simple in a way innocent so every one makes fun of her. She is taken for granted. She is forgetful by nature of which every body takes advantage. Jati bua always taunts her by saying... "you are a defective piece that's why you are not married till now."

The only son of Jati Bua who is constantly pampered and prompted by his mother. He plays a good role in spoiling Nirvaan.
Paras looks after the family business 'NIRVAAN ATHAANA' (home made pickles and other things). He single-handedly does the marketing and also makes his own money. He is a yes man of his mama Neelkanth.
At home, he is very sober and talks very softly and he is well dressed. He buttons his shirts to the collar. But the moment he steps outside he unbuttons his shirts and becomes flamboyant. He smokes, drinks and parties with his friends. He is the type - 'eda bana kar peda khana…'

Shy and introvert, Soham speaks less and to the point. He is unable to express his feelings to all. His Father and Neelkanth shared a special friendship... But now when his father is not in this world, he is like a family member of Neelkanth... He is the only boy who can enter their HAVELI without any restriction!
He loves Gunjan but is unable to express his love for her. He is her pillar of strength and is extremely devoted to her. He often goes out of his way to impress her. Gunjan takes his friendship for granted.
He also helps Sanvari in her plans to become an actress. In short, he shares a very good relationship with all the sisters.

PranJeevan is a loyal servant of the family and is treated like a family member though he doesn't get his salary. But he intends to stay with them as his father had also worked for them.
Badi Bua and Choti Bua are always after him. He knows that their intentions are not honest. So he tactfully handles them and the situation. There is a constant tussle between three of them which results into a situational comedy.
He has got a habit of getting hiccups while talking and he has one pet dialogue, which he adds in the end of his line: "AAP KE MOOH MEIN..."

He is a tapori guy who falls in saves Veera from an accident & later falls in love with her. Jati Bua along with her son Paras creates complications in Vedant & Veera's relationship & he is accussed of a crime that he didn't do. He is successful is proving his inocense in front of everyone but leaves the city. He gst married to his love Veera.

A business tycoon who falls in love with Krishna & proposes Krishna for marriage but she refuses his proposal. In order to get Krishna he traps her brother Nirvaan. He pretends to change & becomes like part of Neelkanth Chanda Rana's family but in reality he is doing an act to get Krishna & he was the one responsible for Parth's accident.
