Secret Garden:

The whole ride Kripa sat without saying a word. It seemed like the hardest moments of her life. She'd look at Angad through the corner of her eye and felt as if they'd went back to day one, when Kripa first met Angad. Angad looked stern and serious, his eye's didn't move away from the steering wheel except the one time he asked Kripa if she needed to go to the bathroom. That was another thing, just because of that one incident in the beginning of this trip, everything Angad and Kripa got in a car he'd always ask if she need to go pee or not. Why couldn't he just forget that like he apparently forgot that Kripa was in the car. What was in Colorado? What is it that's making him so serious and upset? Kripa Asked herself over and over, she wanted to know so badly what it was in Colorado. If it was up to her, she'd fly there and fix whatever it was that was wrong there.
Kripa toyed her hair, making little tiny braids with the loose ends and then unraveling it again. She shifted around in her seat, and even whistled to get Angad to look at her, but he didn't. What is going on! Kripa's minds screamed at her, at him, and at the God damn truck driver driving on the second lane who was making kissy faces at her. Kripa checked her watch and saw that they were almost there, she thanked God and hoped to just get this over with. She wanted her old Angad back. Well technically, this was the old Angad, grumpy, quiet and serious. The Angad Kripa knew was the one in the middle, the one from after the kiss in the bathroom and before this ride; the one she'd known for at the most 15 hours. At that thought, Kripa fell asleep.
Angad rested his body on a sleeping Kripa. He loved the was Kripa lips were pouted out, as if asking for a kiss. He felt her warmth, calm breathing on his face. He bit his lip as he bent closer to her and couldn't hold his smile when she twitched her nose. Boy, he sure would love to wake up with her one morning, come to think of it he didn't mind multiple mornings. He slowly brought his lips to her and rested them their for a while. His eye's glimmered when he felt a smile on Kripa's lips, and he knew she was awake. He kissed her lightly and then looked up at her, "Good Afternoon sleeping beauty." Angad began to kiss her again, and just when he'd about turn his ordinary kiss into a French kissed Kripa moved her face and tried to say something.

"How about you shut up for a minute," Angad offered, trying to kiss her again.
"No, no wait," Kripa said trying to move.

Angad held Kripa down, he really wanted to kiss Kripa after all the silent treatment. It wasn't intentional though, its just something he does. One of those thing you cant control. "Would you let me kiss you already!" Angad yelled jokingly. "I'd love to, if the seatbelt wasn't piercing into my skin with you putting all your weight on me. Angad laughed, and picked Kripa up and sat her down on his lap on the drivers seat.

"Well, pain is a part of pleasure you know," he said kissing her. He kisses were nonstop, Kripa felt his lips open and close on hers, it sent chills down her spine. Actually, she couldn't feel her spine. "Well… if you mix pain.. with pleasure, then… it really isn't… pleasure.. is it?" said Kripa at every chance of a breath she got. Angad kissed Kripa's down to her neck, and then back up to her lips. "Well, you don't really know the true essence of pleasure until you've experienced the pain," he said and right after he bit Kripa's neck and then kissed it again.

Angad lead Kripa a small town house off by the end of a street. It was one for those neighborhoods where all the houses looked alike, except for the ones that remodeled. Kripa never liked the houses that remodeled no matter how big they were, she felt as if those owners betrayed that unity and gone and separated themselves from the rest. Luckily, the house Angad led Kripa too wasn't remodel. It was a cape house almost like the one Kripa lived in, only this one didn't have a attached garage. "Who's house is this?" asked Kripa looking at Angad. Angad stared at the house for a minute and then looked at Kripa. "This is my house. Or it used to be, when my mom was alive, then my dad and I kind of moved around all over the country. This was maybe the only real home I ever had," he explained looking around to see if anything changed.

Kripa held Angad hand tight and smiled at him. She loved this side of Angad, the side she was so seldom, the side was wasn't afraid to let her in, she only hoped he'd never kick her out. "My mom died in in house," he said walking in. Kripa almost tripped, she repeated the words to herself in her mind, Died in this house. Kripa didn't like this house much anymore, she tried to be sympathetic, and maybe she would have been too if Angad wasn't so casual about it. He walked in not caring to wipe his shoes on the mat or do anything. He'd even broken a small angel shaped decoration piece while he played around. As if he didn't care.

"So, this is what you wanted me to see?" asked Kripa sounding very loving, like a mother. "No," yelled Angad from the other side of the house.

"Come here," he said pointing to the backyard.
"Wh...What? " asked Kripa trying to figure out which way to go.

Kripa suddenly thought about what religion Angad belonged too. Angad was a Hindu name right? So, his mother must have been cremated. Kripa thoughts wandered in her mind, thinking about how people kept the dead in their cellars, or how they were buried in their backyards. She hated to be so shallow, but she couldn't help it. "Please, please don't let her be buried her, or in some ice box in the cellar," she whispered so lowly that only she and the dust particles around her could hear.

Kripa walked in to the backyard, and suddenly hated herself for all the crazy thoughts she had a minute ago. What lay before her was the most beautiful garden she'd ever seen. Right then, Kripa fell in love with Angad's mom, she must have been a beautiful women to have created such a beautiful garden, not to mention such a beautiful son. "Angad," she whispered. Angad was playing around with a huge apple tree that stood strong in the middle of the garden. This house is so much better than ours. The only thing that grew in Kripa's garden at home was vegetables. Angad ran back to get Kripa, he held her hand and took her all around the garden. It was so beautiful. It had everything from flowers of all colors to every kind of tree that could grow in Colorado's hot climate. Everything was so green, so red, so blue, so beautiful. Beautiful was the only way she could describe this garden. "Don't be too impressed, it isn't magic. We have a man who comes every day to water the stuff and keep it all this good," he explained. "Angad, this is your mothers garden?" Kripa asked still looking around.

"Yup, I mean, a few modifications were made, like when the flowers died, new ones were planted, but it's always the same flowers in the same place again. Just the way my mom left it, that was the instructions given to the guys. "Its so beautiful Angad, I love it," Kripa said holding Angad's hand.

"This was what I wanted to show you, I knew you'd like it," he said with a smile.

"Your mother must have been a great person to have created this."

"Yeah, she was okay…"

Angad looked down at the down, and played with a dirt. "What's wrong?' Kripa asked holding Angad's face up. "Kripa..," Angad got quiet again, and took another minute.

"My mother…today's her death anniversary," he said still looking down. The smile on Kripa's face faded away, this explained everything, Angad's seriousness, his silence, him wanting to come alone. His mother died this day. Kripa hugged Angad tightly and whispered "Oh Angad" to herself and him. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asked still holding him, until he was ready to let go. "It isn't a big deal, I'm used to it now, it's been a while," he said hugging her with his eye's closed. Kripa couldn't see Angad's face, but she knew he was lying, she knew because Angad wouldn't let go.

Night came quickly, too quickly actually. Angad and Kripa spent hours in the living room sitting on the floor while Angad told stories about his mom, Kripa noticed Angad didn't mention his dad much, and whenever he had too he'd make a face. Kripa decided to talk about that another day.

Angad sat silent for a while, he looked as if he was in deep thought. Kripa sat next to him, she stared at her hand smiling, Angad was in another world altogether, but even then he kept rubbing his thumb on her palm. Kripa liked it, she felt as if he left this world, but not her. "Kripa," he said after a long time, it felt like a sudden bang after a silent storm. "Hmm?" Kripa was still staring into her hand.

"Call your parents," he said still looking into nowhere.

"What? Why?" asked Kripa confused and a bit freaked out. This entire time, while Angad rubbed his thumb on her palm, she'd been thinking about her parent too.

"Trust me, just give them a call."

Kripa stayed silent, and looked harder into her hands.

Karan and Nandini's lives were close to a over, everything went wrong with Kripa leaving. But not wrong socially, wrong emotionally. No one knew about Kripa leaving yet, everyone was told she'd went on some tour with her college for extra credit. They were going to different hospital around the US. Kunal was told that too. Life at home was hell, they couldn't get through one dinner without a fight and Nandini in tears. It would always be about how Kripa running away was Karan's fault and how Nandini would never forgive him. When alone, both would cry, thinking about their daughter. Where was she? How was she? When would she come back? And the biggest question…Why? Why did Karan pressure Kripa? Why did Kripa leave? Why? Anymore more days like this and they'd surely get a divorce. Life became unbearable.

Nandini went to sit outside on the porch for a while after having another fight with Karan. Karan sat in the living room, trying to concentrate on a patients case. The phone rang, and it made Karan jump up. Angrily, he threw his file on the floor and cursed his way to the phone staring out the window at Nandini.

"Hello!" he said annoyed.

Kripa gasped, and looked at Angad who say whispering"talk".

"HELLO!" yelled Karan in to phone. Kripa was about to start crying, she moved away from Angad and went into the kitchen . "H..I, Baba," she said with her voice cracking, and a lump in her throat. Yup…she was crying.

"Kripa? Kripa?" Karan sat down pressing the phone to his ear. His heart had almost stopped beating, he yelled out to Nandini, calling her in.

"Kripa, are you okay, oh Kripa," he said, with tears building up in his eye's. Kripa was breathing fast due to all the crying, "Baba, I'm so sorry. Baba, I'm so so sorry," she wept like a child. Karan held Nandini with one hand, and the phone with the other. "No, Kripa, no. I'm sorry, Kripa where are you, are you okay, Kripa come back please," Karan kept rambling without even thinking.

"Let me talk to her," said Nandini, who had already started crying. "Baba, I'll come back, baba I'm so sorry. I'm okay, I'm fine, I'm so sorry," she said sitting on the floor. "Kripa, tell me where you are, we'll come a get you Kripa, where are you?" he asked sounding desperate. "No baba, I'll come, don't worry," said Kripa looking back at the living room at Angad, who sat on the sofa staring at his shoes. "Kripa, please," said Karan. Nandini took the phone from him and cried on the phone.

"Kripa, Kripa, come back Kripa," she cried.

Kripa had sustained her tears, but hearing her mothers voice made her start to weep all over again. "Mama, I'll come back, mama I'm sorry," she said crying. Sorry seemed to be her word of the day. "I love you mama," she cried holding the phone close, as if it would bring her mother closer.

After ending to conversation reluctantly, Kripa sat on the kitchen floor staring at the small ant struggle to find a way to get back home to its family. Angad walked into quietly and sat next to her. Kripa rested her head on his shoulder and cried even more. "Feeling better?" he asked as he entangled his fingers with hers. Kripa nodded a yes and looked up at him.

"I…I told them, I told them I'm coming back," she said looking blank.

Angad smile and kissed Kripa's hand, "Okay."

"Okay what?"

"We'll go back then," Angad said smiling at her. Angad got up and helped Kripa up too. "Come one, lets et you washed up. Angad was about to walk to the bathroom and Kripa stopped him. She went up to him and kissed softly and hugged him. Without thinking, she whispered into his ears, "I love you." Angad hugged her back and thought silently for a minute and then smiled to himself. "I love you too."
