You are right, I would rather have any other party than BJP but I do think that it will take time for BJP to go out of power because we are a diverse country and hatred is easily sown.

i agree with some of that. BJP should definitely do a better job communicating the good work they have done for minorities.

i dont think BJP will go away any time... till minority appeasement and caste reservations are still around. There's huge backlash to these. That might be till India becomes a fully developed country, when we can afford to quibble over silly things instead of big issues.

Every time we discuss about current govt, we go back to 1940/50s I really do not understand the reasoning behind this.

[K] Point being, divisions (religion / caste) have existed in India since centuries and that modern political parties cater to specific religious/caste groups to secure votes, which can exacerbate social tensions and undermine broader unity. if we are being honest, we can't just accuse one party of exploiting those divisions for political gains.

You do not have to love someone to treat them with respect and dignity.

[K] Agreed. It goes for adherents of all religions. You and a few others seem to be singling Hindus out.

come on, bud, you cant seriously be for all that leftist socialist communist crap. This is the 21st century! That's the system that brought USSR to it's knees. It's been bankrupting various states. It just leads to low growth rates that perpetuate economic misery for generations. Just see India's own experience in that regard. Commie states like west bengal have become waste baskets. Not nice for anyone to still be smoking that chillum.

and I am adjusting for the fact that the UPA/ congress has been in power for some 60 years whereas NDA has been around for 15 years. Seen in that light, even on a per-year basis, the congress has been big daddy of communalism. As for other leftist parties, they have been as bad when it comes to anti-social anti-nation activities. Just look at the level of poll violence in west bengal and kerala to see that- you got a lot of intolerance there.

When I saw left I do not mean social imperialism. If something is not working, you change that because if you say it is left government it has to be pro human. People need to keep the govt in check. I can give multiple examples of far right not working because it is pro culture and not pro human because It often leads to authoritarianism (Germany during Hitler is an example). Several European countries have left leaning govt and majority of the people I know wants to move to these countries or developing countries rather than staying in a country with far right wing govt. I have seen several people who want pro left govt in the country they stay but need pro right govt in India. This is mainly because far right govt makes it harder for immigrants/minorities irrespective of which country.

If you compare the entire congress governance, they were there for longer period of time and there were more riots but cannot really measure the intensity of these riots. We still have Manipur violence going on, isn't the inaction from the govt something people should question them on?

Regarding West Bengal, currently they have Trinamool Congress, they are not communist party. They are centre leaning party. Kerala currently has communist party in power. Kerala does have political violence, Kerala govt is criticised for it. People keep the state govt in check all the time, one wrong step and congress will have the power next time. They are still in power because of their good governance.

Once again, caste reservations are there because of the discriminations. It is not something which can be removed until we do not have caste based discrimination. It is possible that BJP will stay for long time but I also think that people are getting more aware of ground reality. I have friends who were pro BJP but are no longer supporting them. well only time will tell.

My point still stands, BJP is in power right now. There are videos of hate speeches. There are several instances of them taking rights away from minorities. Why should they not be criticised for dividing and ruling? If congress is in power and they are doing it too, I will say the same about them.

I have not mentioned in any of my posts that Hindus should not be respected or do not deserve dignity. All I am saying is we should not be closing our eyes to the way our minorities are being treated. Since Hindus ate the majority in India (around 79%), hindus hold the privileges that comes with being majority. This goes for any country. In Pakistan, Ahmadiya muslims are a minority followed by Pakistani Hindus, they do not have majoritarian privileges. It is not religion specific, it varies with country to country.

TMC is a centre leaning party? Am afraid to ask you what exactly is left leaning then.smiley36 TMC is as scary anti-business as it gets. That Bannerji woman kicked out Tata... all for your pro human policies. smiley2How's that working out now? Not so good, is it? Begging for funds from the centre because she ran the economy into the pro-human groundsmiley36

as for authoritarianism, ya sure, we can see how it is in west bengal and kerala. Intolerance at it's height.

BY THE WAY, THE NAZIS WERE LEFT-WING SOCIALISTS, SAME AS WHAT YOU ARE ESPOUSING HERE. So no thanks, we don't need that for our country. smiley2

so next time you get on a flight, will you be using the pilot from your favored caste? Or the surgeon who could not pass the medical entrance exam but has the right caste certificate? Or the OBC engineer constructing the building you live in who never learned a thing?smiley2 How if people who espouse such ideas live the talk instead of having tax payers fund cuckoo schemes or hire people with no merit?smiley2

let's further elaborate and use the example of west bengal. They talk fancy stuff about equality and pro-human policies. But then after they bankrupt the state, they ask for money from the centre, from other tax payers. I think they should be free to fund their own hare-brained ideas, not extract money from other tax payers.

Anyway, if some of you like reservations and quotas, how if you fund them yourself? Or better still, make way for them in your organization. Get fired so they can be hired? Is it possible to live the talk?smiley2smiley36

Hmm left leaning does not only mean they are anti-capitalism. But you might be right that they might be centre-left rather than centre.smiley24 What is centre govt there for if not for the people, the money is from the people.

You do not become left leaning by just naming your party as socialist. Their ideologies are far right. They hated communism, believed one race is superior, were anti semitic, how are they left leaning? smiley36

if you dont know the Nazis were left-wing socialists, then please do some basic reading. Internet is full of material on the topic. Seriously!

problem with your position is you claim to be left-leaning but what you are espousing is extreme left scary. Those policies lead to low growth... and hurt exactly the poor they purport to help. Look at all the countries that have followed these commie/ left-wing socialist policies during their development stage. They never manage to develop! On the other side are countless examples of countries and states that have developed fast following right-wing free-market economic policies.
