Aadya going through her period reminds me how Bondita did and her charming Pati Babu created pads for her. Mind you this show was based in pre independent era. Funny how Pati Babu was more progressive than this regressive Upma who lives in the modern era!

It is a hig deal in South India. It is a celebration. Girls are given gifts, she is treated like a princess and a function is held where women are called to bless her. It is believed, she would start wearing a half saree there onwards.
During the first period, for a full week, girls are given rich food and actually pampered.

This show in general and Anupamaa, in particular, has this mindset that, I will show this flawed world, the path of knowledge and enlightenment, and expect others to walk on it, but I myself will never walk on that route.. Kabhi nahi kabhi bhi nahi.
Amreeca mein rehti hai but soch aur baatein iski sadiyon purani hi hai….my GrandMom was more progressive than this woman!India mein there are many States, mostly South India that am aware of who celebrate this as a ritual for every young girl, but ye Amreeca mein bhi wohi purani nonsense lekar baithi hai.

Honestly they should have given atleast this part to Shruti, bechari ki wheel chair par fix kar diya, she is more of a friend to Aadhya than a Mother, and Maa toh aaj tak apne ek bhi bachche ki friend nahi ban payi hai, Shruti could have explained her much better in presence of Anuj and they could have had an open conversation on this.

Woh Puppy hai na isiliye samajh gaya. No one else, with an intellectual capacity of a normal human brain, could have ever understood. 
While 1st periods can happen at different ages, in this particular show, the possibility cannot be ignored that Adhya's periods waited so that Maa can make an entry can give lectures on the topic. So poor Shruti anyway had no chance. Jahan bhi activism karne ka mauka hota hai wahan Maa apne aap fron seat pe aa jaati hai... Nature itself lays down the red carpet so the queen of knowledge can impart wisdom to the world. 
Woh alag baat hai ki Maa sirf progressive baatein karti hai, par unki itni aage ki soch unke apne actions mein reflect nahi hoti.. Bilkul nahi...

They want to unite Anuj-Anupama and currently Adhya is a blocker.
Better still make Adhya closer to Shruti and make the two exit the show forever. Wouldn't that be a better plot?.
