Even before their marriage he behaved as if he has unhealthy crush on meerab, meerab even implies in ep2 that she feels suffocating staying with him. Though out the drama, it felt like he was desperate to possess meerab at any cost. I felt the writer has sugar coated his obsessiveness with romantic music and passionate eye locks. And also murtasim's charming hot looks and puppy eyes distracted audience from his obsessive nature towards meerab. I felt like he is no less than danish character from deewangi in his obsessive love towards his heroine.

Murtasim is deeply flawed. So is Meerab. There’s a balance there. Also Murtasim has self insight into who he is, doesn’t hide who he is. and clearly knows what life with him would mean for someone like Meerab. He actively tries to save her from himself and refuses to marry her multiple times. Multiple. He refers to a marriage with him as a kind of “imprisonment” for someone as free spirited as Meerab and implores his mother to save Meerab from that. So the self awareness is there, first of all.

I actually think it’s the opposite. The writer didn’t sugar coat any of Murtasim’s flaws. The ideological clash between Meerab and Murtasim was quite evident in the story…. Especially in the beginning. Wahaj just made Murtasim extremely likeable and because Murtasim also had a lot of redeeming qualities, it all just added up 🤷‍♀️ But the story itself, I don’t think it white washed it. If anything, it highlighted his flaws which was intentional and good 👍🏼

I think he is making a general point, and not targeting anyone specifically, as there is a whole laundry list TV/YT/IG/TikTok stars with SM following that did not translate into Box Office $$$.

But his general point sounds right to me. Film stardom is a completely different beast. Humayun does not have SM reach or engagement of a Hania or Jannat Zubair but his films are very successful at BO.

There’s this assumption lately that following just means how many followers you have on SM. He’s right in the sense that general audience , the masses, might not follow you on SM, won’t engage online or be active in fandoms, but will have knowledge of your work and will buy that ticket to see the movie.

Online platforms just show you one segment of the audience. That’s it

Lagta hai that he is a bit salty about not having as many followers as female celebs 😅. Agree with you that he is not shading anyone specifically. On a different note, I have heard multiple times from GL siblings that some celebs also buy followers. Does anyone know if it is actually true ya phir ya log bongiyan martey hai

Like bollywood actresses I guess all the pak actresses have bought followers because if you see the followers like ratio there's a vast difference..

On the other hand I feel the male actors followers count is genuine..because their like followers ratio matches..

Humayun doesnt care about SM following, because he is the Big Daddy here. Has a PH that churns out tons of shows and makes enough money from it, makes one movie a year to atleast provide a sustained push to Pak cinema and most of them are hits, notwithstanding the quality of content, once in a blue moon features in dramas and makes them blockbuster hits, and he isnt even an outstanding or versatile actor, but still people will tune in to watch him. He is a superstar as far as Pak industry goes. Because he is a producer, he even indirectly benefits from the online popularity of other stars in the industry by casting them in his PH shows lol.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Nothing wrong with having a social media following as far as the female celebs are concerned, as they make extra moolah from the ads and fashion labels they get, which benefit from the online reach and traction of these celebrities. Unfortunately their shelf life as leading lady is short, they will capitalize on it for as long as they can sustain it. But, the problem begins, once you start believing in your own myth. Online hype does not equal to cinematic stardom. Cinema is increasingly becoming difficult to crack after Covid and with OTT, the movie needs to have something special and some X factor or shock value and a life of its own to pull audience in cinema now.

Hania - I can still understand but Jannat Zubair's SM popularity will always be a mystery to me, everything about her screams below average, crass and underage... -_-
