Journos bait stars all the time.
Like Aamir got trapped in intolerance comment issue and earlier Shekhar Gupta had cleverly asked him about Gujarat riots in 2005 or 2004 and he took the bait and went ahead calling Modi a mass murderer and holding him responsible for breakdown of law and order then.
His old interviews are also used against him now and he is only left to issue clarifications or apologies.
Rahul of India today had baited Salman and Salman supported Modi and said which court proved him guilty. And Salman was bashed for flying kite with Modi and accused of being a sellout.
Salman has lost a lot of favour ever since he was seen to support or defend Modi.
I think stars have own FoE and right to political opinion but their statements are used against them to target their films and families by parties or journos or trolls or fans or rivals of parties they support. It is unfortunate that they have to be silent or neutral or else lose endorsements or contracts or their popularity or films are affected.
I was personally never in favour of serious anchors interviewing stars on national or global issues or diplomatic issues. SRK has been called traitor even for pitching for Indo Pak peace and allowing Pak cricketers to play in IPL.
There was no social media earlier so it was not easy to target stars earlier but now due to social media, it is easy to create narrative among unsuspecting masses to destroy image of decades of any star and turn masses against him or tell them to boycott his films or make them feel watching films of a certain star is akin to funding ISI or terror.
