The Evolution Of TV serials and their Portrayal of ‘Indian Values’ - Page 3

80’s and 90’s saw a resurgence of patriotic television shows revolving around the army; a way of encouraging the youth into recruitment. Shows like Buniyaad and Fauji were meant to re-awaken the strong sense of patriotism and nationalism among its viewers. 

The building tensions over Kashmir and incoming Kargil War has the shows focused on service to nationhood. The media became a key element in the recruitment of youths into the armed forces on both sides of the border. During this time also was the rapid rise of ‘family dramas’ especially in India; they dealt with the daily problems of the middle-class and their struggles. 

Yes, The TV content is not good anymore.

Why?  Because of the rat race.   It is all commercialised now.  

In the name of showing something different they started showing something weird.

Characters come back from the dead few years after they were declared dead by medical professionals and after they were burned or buried right in front of the other characters' eyes.

Use plastic surgery to replace an actor.

Employ totally unrelated and unprofessional judges with an expectation that they will attract audience.  Their emotions, their jokes, their catch phrases, their own competitions take up most of the air time.  The poor contestants have to go gaga over their antics for 15 minutes after they finish their own 4 minute performance. 

The list goes on and I will rest my case.

Good serials dont work these days. Channels have tried, but its proven audience isnt interested. hence they stop trying

i think this country's audience is too whiny and nitpicky. they want good things but they will nitpick it, but they will suspend the disbelieve while watching south/other countries serials. hence they probably deserve ektaish serials of dayan chudails and two sister running after one guy

when i was in school i watched yrkkh for a whole year- during naitik akshra time. they showed the culture, rituals and actual progression of arranged marriage and women adjusting to new house so well. today that serial cant work. hence rajan shahi also shifted to stupid twists and turns and audience is lapping it up-look at the trp.

hiring non-actors actors who can’t act is also one of the major drawbacks 🤪😭 it’s like the final doom. It makes it 100 times more unbearable to watch the show🤓🤓🤓 

Inside politics to twist the storyline to cater certain special characters/actors! 🤪 furthers butchers the show!

I am not a 90s kid 

But from what I know before the 2000s 

Serials' faith wasn't in the hands of TRP or such a huge fight between Channels to be trp slot leader. 

The biggest problem is that TRP has become the biggest thing with only 50k tv sets deciding what crores of people would be watching and showing in India. 

I can be wrong but before Corona came Star Plus may not have had the best shows but it had better shows than now remake ones,

But they weren't trp toppers, so they changed their way and brought regressive remakes and if remakes were good, they spoiled it and made it toxic to show nonsense to be in trp race.

Ohh yes that I can't stand at all and when you talk about it like express your opinion against it then people call you names🤪 a show that's based on a shape shifting weird individual gets more clout than a show about a single woman choosing to become a mother with a good social message! 🤪🤪🤪 🤗
