Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on the second day of Navratri. She is one of the most pious forms of Goddess Parvati. When Parvati grew up, she decided to marry Lord Shiva. Once Sage Narada advised her to do penance in order to win Bholenath's heart. Goddess Parvati does immense penance for thousands of years. She spent one thousand years eating fruits and beetroots and the next thousand years surviving only on leaves. She later stopped eating everything and lived merely on air. She came to be called as Aparna or the one who lived without leaves. Impressed by her deep penance and true love Lord Shiva visits Paravati in disguise of Brahmachari and puts forth a marriage proposal, accepting her.
Goddess Brahmacharini teaches us to achieve perfect control over our senses. Worshipping her can spark the qualities of self-restraint, sacrifice and devotion among her devotees. Scriptures say people who have Mangal dosh in their horoscopes worship her as she is called the ruler of the planet Mars. Her favorite flower is Jasmine.
She was created by Lord Brahma and considered to be the source of your true nature i.e. infinity.
Brahmacharini signifies being unmarried and the colour white signifies purity. Due to her unearthly and difficult penance she was glorified with the name Brahmacharini.
