This is the reason why BW is failing. Giving importance to the actor over the story.

When the OG VV was made Vijay was a smaller star than Madhavan but still got to play a role which has equal, if not more, importance than Madhavan’s role.

If Hrithik is such a big star, he shouldn’t have a problem sharing the central stage with others. May be the makers are not too confident about it themselves hence the tweaking of the OG script to elevate him.

Hrithik shared screenspace with Tiger and also shared equal screen space with Farhan and Abhay in Znmd(these 2 got no BO whatsover)

Hrithik superstar esei nahi ban gaya, he does hardwork on each of his films!!!

Based on the trailer yes but sometimes the person with the lesser role steals the show

The trailer portrayal of characters, at least to me, seemed to align with Vikram Betal stories and TV show from my childhood.

Betal is manic and talkative. He steals every frame, every moment with his histrionics. Vikram is subdued and silent. He simply absorbs and reflects on Betal's stories. It wasn't unusual for Vikram to barely speak in a story or episode. Just because a character

One of the "lessons" the folk tale is supposed to instill is don't be hasty to action, be like Vikramaditya - silently absorb the truth, weigh the options, and make the best possible decision at the time.

It is possible that the writing is poor and Saif Ali Khan's Vikram is indeed shortchanged and underdeveloped. It is also possible that this is an intentional creative decision and doesn't minimize his character in any way.

Darth Vader had only 8 minutes of screen time in A New Hope. Beetlejuice barely appears in the movie Beetlejuice. Willem Dafoe never appeared in any trailer for Boondock Saints 2 even though he was a breakaway character in the first film. The most memorable character from Inglorious Basterds was Cristoph Waltz Hans Landa who was completely eclipsed in the trailers focused on Brad Pitt's character. Trailers or screen time do not always mean much.

I think part of the peeve is Vijay played it mellow in the original. But 2 actors can interpret the same role differently. As you said, Hrithik is more Vetal than Vijay.

But Vikram does have an equally active role if they kept script more or less same as original.
