it is ‘appalling’ that modern women are doing Karwa Chauth - Page 4

Nice. Ratna found a very pressing issue to have comments on.

In the midst of continuous blasphemy killings, Karva Chauth is our priority.

Pseudo liberals. Sara gyan Hindu festivals pe hi nikalta hai. Baki sab ke liye — secularism. 😆

Anyways I have no opinion on Karva Chauth. Karna hai karo, nai karna hai mat karo.

If Hijab is a choice, Karva Chauth is a choice too.
If why only women fasts, toh fir why only women cover their heads, men should too.
For 70%, Hijab is not a choice, it’s compulsion.
Karva Chauth on the other hand is compulsion for rigid families. For most, it’s a choice.

Many women have internalized patriarchy. Forcing them to change is wrong. But bringing awareness is definitely the need of the hour.

Lot of bullshit is done in the name of tradition/culture. Just because it has been done since ages doesn't necessarily mean it's right. We have to keep re-evaluating ourselves and improving the way we live.

I absolutely agree it's their choice, but we should encourage such awareness and open dialogue so that at least a few women can feel less guilty about not following this regressive practice.

I didn’t see you in the Hijab threads with all this gyan.

The same applies there too.

Waha selective ban jate hai aap jese log. 😆

Whatever I said applies to hijab too. I hadn’t seen that thread.

You guys jump to conclusions and make assumptions as per your convenience.

I am just me. No you guys here.

Good to know your stand on hijab. Refreshing I must say.

Chalo, I take back my comment. May be you genuinely missed those threads.

Karva Chauth was limited to few parts of North India earlier until Bollywood and T.V. promoted it in a big way and made it a worldwide phenomenon among Indian women.

Ratna has only her own industry to blame if she finds the custom followed by many women.

Anyway she bashed Saudi Arabia also and did not speak about only one religion so I will cut her some slack.

I think celebs are entitled to their opinion.  I used to find people angry when Jagjit Singh, Gulzar, Gul Panag, Taapsee Pannu used to talk about how they wanted to cut their hair and never really thought their faith lay in keeping unshorn hair. But that was their individual opinion if they felt stifled or pressurised keeping unshorn hair or felt they did not think they became less of Sikhs if they cut their hair.

Celebs have individual right to opinion. Ratna spoke because she was asked if she keeps karva chauth fast so she responded.

Though I think her changing her surname to Shah and her son taking only her husband's identity and not hers was also conservative and not progressive.

Most celebs are not traditional or conform to religious norms so why expect anything else from them?

And get angry if they say they do not follow custom?

This reminds me of trolling Rishi Kapoor got for saying he eats beef or trolling Harbhajan Singh gets for celebrating Karva Chauth despite being Sikh or for not wearing turban or trimming beard or wishing on X Mas instead of Shaheedi divas on Twitter every year by thekedaar of religion.

Let celebs BE.
