Pooja was more versatile in her work and the characters she played whereas with Alia you always see hint of a similarity in all her characters. Pooja however never came across as a strong performer the way Alia does, but that could be because Alia has worked with better filmmakers and more solid scripts.
Pooja never had the ambitions that Alia has. Daddy was a critical success and both DHKMN and Sadak were box office successes. But somehow she wasn’t able to cash in on that. Part of it was definitely her decision to stick to Vishesh films and doing some quirky roles (by 90s standards) in her dad’s films. I think one of the reasons Alia didn’t even try to get launched by her father was because she knew her dad wouldn’t be able to do for her what KJo could, and she was right.

I totally agree
Pooja and Mahesh Bhatt both stated in few interviews that the CULT CLASSIC musical superhit AASHIQUI was written keeping Pooja in mind...she could have nailed that character of an innocent orphan the way she looked so innocent those days in 1990 (film daddy in case) though Anu Agarwal done great job but Pooja would have looked equally good in that role... yet she refused Aashiqui
She did Daddy with lot of pressure by his dad...and she told that after Daddy she said NO to other films as doing movies was never her passion.. she straight away refused Dil hai ke manta nahi as well 😲 and to make her agree to do DHKMN her uncle Mukesh Bhatt convinced her a lot and even had to come to her home with a bag full of currency notes as a FORCED signing amount, only with lots of convincing from Bhatts/her family she agreed to do DHKMN and other films afterwards.
Keeping in mind her no passion/no ambition to be an actress, she performed brilliantly in most of her films, especially in sensitive emotional characters.
