England and India face off in the second game of the three-match ODI series today. The match will be played at the iconic Lordโ€™s in London.

Building on the momentum from the win in the T20I series, India trashed England in the opening ODI at the Kensington Oval on 12th July.

India won the opening game of the 3-match ODI series comfortably by 10 wickets, and the match ended in less than 50 overs combined across the 2 innings.

India is on a roll and will look to win this match and the ODI series so that they can experiment in the third ODI match.

England had lost the T20I series and is now on the brink of losing the ODI series too. They need to win this 2nd ODI match to keep the series alive and take the ODIs into the decider.

England's batters were steamrolled for 110 runs with as many as 4 of their top-5 batters registering ducks. The likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, and Jason Roy were dismissed without scoring in the match.

England's bowlers did not have a big score to effectively trouble the opposition. Reece Topley and David Willey trouble the batters in the power play with the new ball, but did not get any wickets to their name. Craig Overton and Brydon Carse were taken for a lot of runs in the match.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma (76* runs) and Shikhar Dhawan (31* runs) made it easy in the chase of 111 runs with their skipper playing some aggressive pulls and hooks for fun. Virat Kohli, who got injured before the 1st ODI might return to playing XI if he is fit to play in place of Shreyas Iyer.

Let extend our best wishes to our team and expect to view an interesting game today.

Jos Buttler

If the Indian think tank had to rank the perfect ODI over the last five years, then the Oval game would feature high up in the order.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami snuffed out England for a mere 110. Rohit Sharma then finished with a breezy fifty as India knocked off the runs without breaking stride.

On that day, right from winning the toss, nothing could have gone wrong for India.

Incidentally, that superlative pace bowling show put India's recent PowerPlay deficiencies in the spotlight. They had gone into the opening game with the worst average, strike rate and economy rate in the first 10 overs in the 50-over format since the 2019 World Cup.

The visitors also included an extra specialist pace bowler in Prasidh Krishna over more of an all-round option in Shardul Thakur.

It is true that Prasidh has been in fine form in ODIs and also his style of bowling was suited to the extra bounce that the Oval track offered.

However, somewhere, it also indicated India's attacking mindset of looking for wickets.

To throw in a word of caution, the conditions at Lord's for the second ODI needn't turn out to be as bowler-friendly, although the slope would be a factor at the ground.

If the Lord's track also has any grass cover/moisture, the team winning the toss is set to bowl. Incidentally, a couple of weeks ago, when Somerset took on Middlesex in a T20 Blast game, the curator, Karl McDermott had left a tinge of grass.

The white Kookaburra swung more than expected in not just the first ODI but also in the preceding T20I series. The sample size though is small. The weather forecast suggests it would be mostly a clear day.

India would likely continue with the winning combination.

Virat Kohli, who has been laid low by a groin problem, could be rested for the second match in a row given the short turnaround between games.

Either Virat or SKY will play in this match.

Did you know?

- India have lost the three ODI series they have played outside Asia since 2020 - New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

- Three ducks among top four for England in an ODI - Roy, Bairstow and Root versus Australia in Adelaide in 2018. Roy, Root and Stokes versus India at The Oval in 2022.

- Players with 40 plus average and 100 plus strike rate in ODIs since Jan 2018 (Minimum 1500 runs) - Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Jos Buttler.

"There was obviously a little bit in the wicket early on, and I thought Jasprit Bumrah especially exposed that fantastically well.

We had the big guns coming back in. They've all been in some of the best form of their life, playing Test cricket, so it proves that it wasn't easy out there, but we must look and think is there a way we can try and manage it better, try and not lose as many wickets at the start, and we've got to learn quickly," Buttler on England's collapse at the Oval.
